Angelina was tired of Montague’s insight. She didn’t know much about him and yet he seemed to know a lot about her. It was irritating to believe he was more resourceful than she gave him credit for. Once she ensured Fred and George’s safety, she proceeded to seek Montague out. Unfortunately it wasn’t easy to find him. She tried searching in Knockturn Alley, she tried showing up at his abode, and she even tried the Quidditch supply store in Diagon Alley assuming he still loved the sport even though it had been years since they went to Hogwarts and competed against each other, but he couldn’t be found anywhere.

As she exited the store she bumped into two familiar faces. “Pucey. Flint. I’m glad to run into you guys. Have either of you seen Montague?” she inquired, hoping they could give her a clue as to where he was currently located.

“Are you actually addressing us right now?” Adrian asked.

“She’s daft. Let’s get out of here,” Marcus commented. He was not only skeptical but suspicious of Angelina’s politeness.

“No, I’m not. I really need to talk to him. It’s urgent.”

“What’s in it for us?” he retorted.

Angelina was going to pull her wand out and threaten the location out of them when Montague showed up. Angelina looked relieved, but Adrian and Marcus looked annoyed. Before anyone could say anything, Montague pulled his friends aside to whisper a few things to them then walked over to Angelina and said, “Come with me.”

Once they far enough away from Adrian and Marcus, Montague spun around to face Angelina. “What’s the meaning of this? What do you want from me?”

“Answers.”

“I don’t have to tell you anything.”

“Yes, you do. You’ve saved me more than once. I am not a damsel in distress. I don’t need you looking out for me all the time. I need to know how you were able to do that and why you ever cared enough to do it to begin with.”

Montague crossed his arms and bit his lower lip. He knew that telling her the truth would devastate her and he wasn’t about to get in the middle of her friendship. No, he would do neither for now because he felt the best course of action would be for Angelina to find out the truth on her own. He hated the fact he knew about the betrayal and in order to continue to protect her from her enemies he’d have to continue lying, even if it meant earning her hatred in the process.

“Look I more than anyone else wish you much unhappiness and dread and if you feel that’s what you deserve then I will stop looking out for you. Does that make you feel better?”

“No, it doesn’t.”

“That’s all I can offer you,” and with those words Montague apparated away, never telling her that Alicia was secretly scheming behind her back.
