here The day of the Yule Ball was finally here. The Great Hall was lavishly decorated and turned into a Winter Wonderland by the professors. Some couples were already on the dance floor by the time Alicia arrived, others were at their tables eating and yet others were talking among themselves. Alicia found her friends in the crowd within a few minutes. They weren’t hard to spot.
“I love your dress,” Katie complimented Alicia.
“Thank you. It took me a while to pick a dress, but ultimately I decided to settle on this baby blue dress, needed to give the red a rest,” Alicia replied with a smile.
Angelina laughed. “That’s good news for me since I’m rocking this dress,” she said, pointing briefly at her bright red dress.
At that moment Fred approached the three girls and said, "Excuse me ladies, but I believe my date owes me another dance." He offered Angelina his hand, which she gladly took. Fred pulled her away from her friends gently and once she had some room to breathe he twirled her which caused her to giggle.
Once they were gone Katie was approached by her date - a Hufflepuff boy whose name Alicia had completely forgotten. She smiled and waved the couple off, signaling she was okay with them leaving her alone. It didn't take long for Miles to find her at the table her friends were previously occupying.
"May I have this dance?" he asked her, holding out his hand.
"No."
"If you dance with me once then I won't bother you again."
"I don't believe you."
"What do I need to do to make you believe me?"
"Well..."
"I am not taking off my clothes and running down the halls naked on this evening. I know you've been wanting to trick me into doing that for years now, but tonight's not the night."
Alicia laughed. She couldn't stop laughing for a few minutes. It had been days since she laughed like that about anything. Things haven't been easy for her lately. Her parents were in the middle of a divorce and Alicia was taking it very hard. She didn't blame herself for their separation, but it did make her lose her faith in love. Once she composed herself she agreed to dance with Miles.
"For the record this doesn't mean you're my date."
"Of course."
