Miles knew he was selfish, inconsiderate, liked bending the rules and generally looked out for mostly himself. There was nothing wrong with that as long as he wasn't hurting anyone or preventing them from seeking their personal happy - or so he reasoned. So he was rather surprised when Alicia didn't bend to his will nor did she cower when he was coming at her, full speed.
It was a bright, sunny day in Scotland. There was a slight breeze every so often. The Pride of Portree was playing against the Appleby Arrows on this brilliant day. The roar of the crowd wasn't deafening, but it was exhilarating to both Miles and Alicia. This was the first time this season their teams were playing against each other and it was something they both looked forward to.
An hour into the game the Arrows were up by 50 points and Miles was beyond irritated, he was downright vicious. He took a swipe at Alicia, but she dodged his attempt at stealing the quaffle and smiled at him as she scored another point. "You underestimate me. You always have," she told him smugly as she zoomed towards the other end of the pitch. A few moments later the Portree seeker caught the snitch and ended the game.
Later in the locker room, Alicia was one of the last players to get herself ready to head home. She enjoyed taking her time, especially after working so hard. As she stepped out of the shower, she jumped because she hadn't expected to see anyone. Miles was staring directly at her, his brow quirked curiously.
"Why aren't you intimated by me?" Miles asked.
"Why should I be?" she asked with a laugh. She walked past him and started to get dressed. She turned her back to him, not caring if he caught a glimpse of her behind. She was more concerned with shielding the front.
"Most people are and I don't know if I should be annoyed or impressed by your ambivalence."
Alicia shrugged as she threw on some clothes and tied up her wet hair. She grabbed her duffle bag and made a beeline for the door. Miles grabbed her by the wrist and said, "You can't turn down my dates forever."
"True and you can't pursue me forever either."
"I can't tell if you're devoted to turning me down or devoted to remaining single."
"Why does it have to be one or the other? Why can't it be both?"
