"Slytherin!" the sorting hat shouted. As Professor Mcgonagall removed the hat, Miles grinned widely then strolled towards his fellow housemates. He was greeted with a few handshakes and pats on the back.
Alicia watched him. During their conversation on the Hogwarts Express she would've never guess he'd land in Slytherin. She wondered her own fate and upon being sorted into Gryffindor looked at him. He shrugged.
Miles and Alicia didn't speak most of their first year. Most of the year consisted of stares, but never an actual conversation. They were too busy with friends and school work; they were in opposing houses, friendship wasn't usually encouraged between the two and neither made an attempt to go against the grain.
In their second and third years they finally started to interact more, but these interactions were always tinged with competitiveness. They didn't usually have nice things to say because it centered around Quidditch and who was better at it. On the contrary, the comments were mean and full of attitude neither knew they were capable of with little provocation.
In their fourth and fifth years they started to see each other differently. Alicia had a huge crush on Miles, but suppressed it because she thought he was arrogant. Miles felt the same, but ignored his feelings because he wanted to go after someone who had more in common with him. He didn't realize they had plenty in common.
In their sixth and seventh years they finally admitted how they felt - not to each other but to themselves. It accidentally turned into declarations. It started with flirting and turned into a friends with benefit situation. The way Miles grabbed her by the hips and lifted her onto desks so he could explore her more easily caused Alicia to moan and grind against him every time. He never protested. They never thought they'd end up here but they were grateful and wouldn't change a thing. Most people wouldn't approve but the sex was too good to care.
