Alicia thrived under pressure. Miles thrived when there were obstacles in his path. Alicia liked having free time to read, write and perfect her Quidditch skills. Miles liked keeping himself busy and felt that any free time was a sign he wasn't progressing as much in life as he wanted to. Despite these differences Miles and Alicia found a way to connect, but it wasn't always smooth sailing.
Throughout most of Hogwarts Alicia didn't think highly of Miles or any Slytherin for that matter. She made it known that she lumped him in with the rest of the Slytherins because he never stuck out from the pack. He never did anything that made him appear different than them. He indulged in their jokes and enjoyed partaking in the harassment of younger students from other houses. She couldn't count the number of times she had to intervene nor the times they ended up arguing in class.
In their sixth year they had to work on a Potions' project together. They made each other miserable every time they met up in the library to do research, every time they bumped into each other in the halls to exchange notes and it became difficult to diffuse the rumors people started because of the amount of time they were spending together. It didn't help that once the project was over they were cordial towards one another. It was odd that one simple project would make their relationship thrive.
Who would've ever known that something so simple would cause chemistry to fly? It didn't take Alicia to notice Miles' dimples, the things that made him smile and the way he walked with a bit of a swagger to his step - but it wasn't an exaggerated one. Miles noticed Alicia's range of expressions, how to read her body language to discern what she was thinking and the way her hair swayed as she walked. Noticing these little details sparked the flame they never knew was there before.
