Every night Alicia had the same dream. Miles would knock on her door. She would ask for him to identify himself and once he did she opened the door, puzzled by his appearance. Before she could ask him what he wanted or the purpose of his visit he would kiss her. The kiss was passionate, unexpected and breathtaking. She didn't know what to make of it or the fact he would find his way into her bedroom shortly thereafter. He carried her every time. The sex was beyond memorable - it was the best sex she remembered having and the worst part was that she would wake up before their intimacy was over. As a result she never had a chance to find out what happened next.
For weeks she wondered if her subconscious was trying to tell her something until she decided to do something about it. On her way to lunch one day she bumped into Miles in the elevator.
"Can I talk to you for a minute?" she asked once everyone exited to their respective floors.
He quirked a brow and nodded, not sure what to expect. Miles and Alicia hadn't spoken much since Hogwarts when they were on rival Quidditch teams. Miles remembered the banter between them and as fun as it was he didn't want to resume that type of relationship with her. He preferred to keep things professional since they had to work together in the same department of the Ministry of Magic - Department of Magical Games and Sports.
"Would you be interested in going out for coffee sometime?" she replied.
"Are you asking me out on a date?"
"Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing."
"Does this mean you're going to pay?"
"Yes, that's exactly that this means."
"Well, in that case I'm happy to accept. Answer me this: why are you doing this?"
"I've always thought you were a fascinating person and I wanted to talk to you a little more to see if we can find common ground."
Miles found this answer to be highly suspicious. "I know the past is behind us. Whatever wrongs were committed by either of us while we were in school..."
"This isn't about that. This isn't some attempt to obtain forgiveness. I don't think there's anything I've done that warrants it."
"So why are you not being direct with me?"
"Because we don't have that kind of relationship."
"I won't make fun of you for telling the truth. Besides you're a Gryffindor alum, aren't you supposed to be brave? Try the direct approach and see how it feels. Admit you think I'm hot and get it over with."
"I'll see you for coffee this Friday."
"That's four days from now."
Alicia nodded and smiled. "This date isn't urgent and I'm a busy woman so..."
"Fine, I'm in it for the free coffee anyways," he retorted, a smirk plastered on his face to show he was joking. He intended on finding out more during this date and he hoped it meant finally learning some truth about the tension he felt between them. He couldn't explain it so maybe this coffee date would do the trick.
