Alicia had been sick for three days and the fever didn't seem to be improving. She hated being stuck in bed, but she didn't have the energy to do anything. She used basic spells to bring food from the kitchen to her bedroom and had to slowly make her way to the bathroom to shower, vomit or do anything else she needed to as her illness dictated. Work was on her mind because things were hectic this time of year, but she knew her colleagues had her back. She dreaded returning but hoped things would be in order when she did.
During one of her light naps she heard a knock on the door. She didn't move a muscle. She wasn't in the mood for company. Suddenly she heard a light pop and knew she had company, even though a part of her wished for solitude. Her bedroom door slowly opened and Miles peered his head through it to see if she was available.
"I didn't want company. Please go away."
"I brought soup," he quickly replied and showed her the bag the soup was in.
Alicia sighed and motioned for him to enter her bedroom. Miles knew he wasn't welcomed, but he was trying to be kind. For once he was trying to show her how he felt without resorting to tricks and their usual witty banter. It was fun to do either, but he wanted to try a new approach. Miles was on the verge giving up his quest to win Alicia's affection, but he wanted to try one last thing before moving on.
For the next two hours Miles cleaned Alicia's apartment, made sure she ate as much soup as she could, caught her up on what was happening at the Ministry during her absence, ran a few errands for her and then as he was preparing to leave Alicia asked him to come over to her bed.
Alicia kissed him on the cheek and said, "Thank you. You didn't have to do this, but thank you. Your company was appreciated more than either of us thought it would be."
"I'll take that as a declaration of love," Miles joked causing Alicia to roll her eyes then laugh.
