Alicia didn't usually suffer from insomnia but everything she learned about Miles in the past few days left much to be desired. There were so many questions she had but where would she get the courage to ask. Then she realized she was a Gryffindor and courage was her middle name. So later that morning when Miles came out of the bathroom, she confronted him. She knew it would catch him off guard and she wanted the element of surprise.
"You've been acting like strange lately. You tell me you're going to work, but I know you skipped out on more than one occasion. What's going on?"
"Have you been following me?"
"No."
"Then how you do know I haven't been at work? Is someone else tailing me?"
"Maybe."
"Why would you do that? Don't you trust me?"
Miles stared at her long and hard. Alicia stood silent. How could she explain her suspicions? She hadn't sent anyone to tail him. She wanted him to believe that. The truth was that a few people saw him at some suspicious places and told her about it. She didn't want to throw them under the bus, so she decided to make it seem like she didn't trust him instead. What Alicia didn't know was that he was planning a surprise for her hence the sneaking around. He wasn't doing anything wrong. He was trying to get her a beautiful anniversary gift without her finding out in advance what it was. It seems that he accidentally made it seem like he was up to no good. He didn't answer any other questions.
For the next few days she tried to trick him into telling what was going on but it didn't work. Then one morning when she was getting ready to go to work he got down on one knee and proposed. The ring was one of a kind. Alicia was stunned.
"Are you serious? Is this why you were acting sketchy a few days ago?"
"Maybe."
He smirked. She shook her head and gracefully accepted the proposal, but only after smacking him in the arm lightly. She couldn't believe she thought he was seeing someone else behind her back.
