"When are you going to leave this house?"
"Why does it matter, Angelina? There's nothing waiting for me out there. Nothing you can say will convince me otherwise. You might have a slight inkling of what I'm experiencing, but you aren't me. You don't experience pain the way I do. You don't know what it's like to give someone you love everything and to have them completely destroy you. My heart isn't just broken. It's shattered."
"Sweetheart, we know it hurts but Katie and I think that it'll be good for you to get out. You can't let him win by letting him see how much you're hurting."
"I agree with Angelina. You need to show him you've moved on."
It took a few more hours, but Angelina and Katie were able to convince Alicia to get out of the house. She got dressed, did her hair and put on some make up, which they knew took a lot of effort. They encouraged her every step of the way. They made it a point not to mention Miles' name. They didn't want Alicia to change her mind and decide to ditch them. The last thing they wanted was to cause her further pain.
Angelina knew it was hard on her, the break up had been unexpected - at least to Alicia it was. Angelina had some suspicions it was coming because he was acting strange. She hated to admit that he foreshadowed his departure, but after her own break up with Montague a few summers ago, she knew what to look for. People were creatures of habit and they tended to raise certain red flags when things were amiss.
The spent the day shopping and that evening they went dancing. They bumped into Oliver Wood and Lee Jordan. It was nice to see old friends, but the truth was that Alicia wasn't ready. She departed early and her friends let her go because they knew they had to give her space. She had done enough for the day. As Alicia walked home she thought about everything she learned while dating Miles and knew that even though she was hurting now, she wouldn't be hurting forever. She would put this all in perspective and put herself out there again. It would take time, but the best things happen over time - not instantly.
