Many years ago when Alicia was a little girl she learned that protecting your heart was important, but not as important as finding yourself and this confused her for a few years. She struggled with the thought of balancing both and tried to sacrifice one for the other on a few occasions. It didn't turn out so well. She kept vigil of her heart and what she quickly noticed was that it was preventing her from fully experiencing certain events in life. It was odd. She had been raised to believe that protecting yourself was important and for the most part she fulfilled that lesson internalized years ago. How could two ideas that nurture each other in a way cause so much conflict in the soul? She sought to find the answer.
Miles' upbringing was different than Alicia's on many different fronts. Not only was he told to suppress his emotions like most guys his age, but he was also told to pursue purpose with every fiber of his being. It didn't matter to them if he impacted the lives of other in whatever way he choose. All they asked for him was to be someone, to be recognized and to make a name for himself and his family. He did. He continued to rise through the ranks and looked to be the next person in contention for the Minister of Magic position. He liked the idea of running things, but didn't know how long it would last and what he would do with himself. He kept vigil on his prestige and was careless with his heart, even though emotions were meant to hidden, not nurtured.
Of course fate would throw these two together with their differing views. This happened in part to teach them a valuable lesson and afford them the opportunity to grow. On the other hand, it was bound to happen because they ran into each other at the Ministry way too often for it to be a coincidence. Something was up and for this reason Alicia asked Miles out on a date. He liked his women bold, so he went for it. Who could turn down someone as intelligent as Alicia? She wasn't as attractive as the woman he was used to dating, but the fire in her eyes, the swagger in her step and the ambition in her stride made him go through with it.
