Many emotions course an individual throughout their life time. They don't always know how to deal or even cope with them all. Dealing with something is different from coping. When you deal with it usually it's in hopes of it going away and at times one goes as far as pushing it to the side and ignoring it. When you deal with it you're facing the problem head on with the hope that you'll become a better person from that experience. As fate would have it, Alicia Spinnet would learn this difference the hard way.
When Alicia found out she was pregnancy she grew afraid. She usually didn't have time for fear, but this experience was something else. It made her more emotional than she usually was, it made her appetite go through the roof and it made her feel all sorts of aches and pains as a result. She knew who the father was, but wasn't going to tell him anything. She didn't want him to be there for her. She didn't want his input in anything. She was determined to do this on her own, even though she was afraid.
The first three months went by quickly. She started to notice physical changes. They worried her at first, but soon she was becoming more and more eager to welcome her child into this world. She wanted to protect it, love it, raise it and give it everything she couldn't have as a child. All the joy she had ever felt couldn't compare to this moment and she wanted to hold onto it for as long as she could. Angelina and Katie soon found out the news. She shared this with them because she knew they would support her through this.
"That's wonderful Aly," Katie squeed.
"I know," Alicia replied.
"Do you know what it's going to be yet?" Angelina inquired.
"No, not yet. Soon, I hope."
Neither girl discussed the father because they understood that Alicia didn't want to have anything to do with him. He wouldn't be supportive if she told him and this hurt her. It hurt her because it was their child and he couldn't be there for her. He didn't know how to. He wouldn't know how to help her, if he even would. This depressed her to some extent, but she couldn't let herself cry. She had to be strong for her child. Even if that meant sacrificing a few things along the way.
The next three months were drawn out a little more. The doctors at St. Mungo's were optimistic about her progress. Her weight gain was fair for her height and her diet was good. She did all the recommended things and knew this was to the child's benefit. She wondered about her child's gender, but the doctors still couldn't give her a clear answer which made her a little impatient.
By her seventh month almost everyone knew about her pregnancy. It wasn't long before he would come knocking on her door.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Oliver asked her.
"I wanted to, but I knew it wouldn't do me any good."
"How can you say that? I love you Aly."
"I just can't do this with you. On my own I'm good Oliver, but when you're around you make things complicated. You don't accept me as a person. You're always looking for ways to change me and my opinions are never good enough."
"That's not true," he replied indignantly.
"Yes, it is. We always used to argue about Quidditch when we were on the team together. That's why I was glad you left Hogwarts when you did because another year with you would've been the death of me."
"I didn't know..."
"Just leave Oliver. Please. Before you make a fool of yourself."
"Do you need help with anything?"
"You can help me by leaving me alone."
And so he did. He didn't visit her again, but he was planning on figuring out a way to be there for without her knowing about it. So as her ninth month near he got more information in St. Mungo's about her pregnancy. An old friend of his let a few things slip, but only to help Oliver out. Meanwhile Alicia was enjoying her life free from the stress that is Oliver Wood.
She took a quiet walk through her favorite park. It only took 10 minutes of walking to wear her out. She sat down on a bench and just let the sun beam down on her. She closed her eyes as she enjoyed the warmth it provided her. Moments later a person sat next to her.
"So it's true," the person said.
Alicia's eyes instantly opened. Next to her was, her old rival, Miles Bletchley. She didn't feel like yelling at him at the moment. She just wanted to continue having a good day without Miles ruining it.
"Yes, I am pregnant."
"Wow! I never thought I would see the day when someone would actually impregnate you. I'm truly shocked this day has come. If anything I thought I would have a kid before you. Seems I was wrong."
"You know Miles, you need to have sex to have a baby. So I couldn't see how you would've beaten me since you haven't gotten laid since you were in your sixth year at Hogwarts. What are you 25 now?"
Miles leered at her. She simply smiled. Her smiled disappeared when the contractions started. Things changed at once. Miles put aside his anger to help Alicia get to the hospital safely and quickly. Hours later Alicia gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She named him Jonah Michal Spinnet. She outright refused to give him the last name Wood and had security keep Oliver out of her hospital room while she was there. The minute her son was placed in her arms she felt complete. She had never felt such completion before.
Once she was discharged from the hospital Miles volunteered to bring her home. He didn't have the chance to because Angelina took her home before he could. He stopped at Alicia's house to bring her son a present and wouldn't let anything deter him from that.
"What are you doing here?"
"I just came by to give Jonah a present."
He placed the medium sized box next to the baby and excused himself to leave.
"Wait!"
Alicia opened the box only to reveal a blue teddy bear inside. Miles stopped and turned around. When he did he saw Alicia's face light up.
"Your welcome."
He started to walk again, but Alicia physically stopped him this time.
"Thank you."
She kissed him softly on the lips. Only then was he able to truly leave.
