He never thought the day would come when he would be faced with this. He knew going into this that sacrifices needed to be made, lives needed to be taken and blood must be shed. He believed he could do Voldemort's bidding without feeling the effects of it. He had numbed himself to humanity; stopped feeling empathy. It hurt him in the past so he felt no need to involve himself with it.
That all changed when Marcus Flint told him he had tracked Alicia down. Miles nearly leaped onto Marcus, but refrained from doing so because he didn't want to scare his friend. Instead he made it seem as though he was completely unaffected by this information. Secretly however, he listened intently to the address and made it a point to go visit her.
Alicia had fled three years ago; leaving him feeling lost and hopeless. She took with her his soul nearly sucking him out all his being in the process. Now he was face to face with his progeny. The small boy's eyes mirrored his mother's. The way they sparkled in the moonlight made him have to catch his breath. The way his face was shaped was all Bletchley. Rage filled him upon the realization that this little person was an extension of him. He didn't know he had created such a life.
"What's your name?"
"Joshua," he replied shyly. Miles kneeled down. He wanted to hug the small boy before him, but knew he would find that too weird. He knew the boy had no idea who he was. He masked his anger by smiling at Joshua.
"Where's your mummy?"
"In her bedroom."
"Could you show me where that is?"
Joshua nodded as started to led Miles to Alicia. He admired Alicia's flat, impressed by how well she had done for herself. Then a door swung open and he now stood face to face with Alicia, the woman who still held his heart.
"Miles! What are you doing here?" she inquired. Miles simply frowned. He frowned even harder when Alicia scopped Joshua up and held him close to her chest. He sighed and understood her protectiveness. He was still working for Voldemort. That was a known fact.
"I just wanted to see you. Is there something you need to tell me?" he asked her, looking at Joshua.
Alicia shook her head vigorously because she didn't trust herself enough to speak. He sighed and simple added, "Can I hold him then?" She wanted to say no, but couldn't bring herself to do it. The instant Miles held Joshua he felt a burst of love fill him.
"There's a lot we need to discuss," she finally said.
He nodded. "You're right. The bonds we've created can't easily be broken."
These words scared Alicia to no end.
