She smiled. It had been a long time since she had done that. She almost forgot what smiles consisted of. Alicia Spinnet was actually feeling happy for once. It was a miracle. Yes, she was cynical; demented even. Yet it was still a miracle. Her hands were still stained with blood. She spent hours pining over this and even though water had cleansed her hands, her soul was still tortured with agony over what she had done.

Adrian Pucey was dead. Good, he deserved it. No more fake, "I love yous" or worse, "You belong to me". Alicia was her own person and belonged to no one but herself. Adrian tried to mold her into someone she wasn't and it led to his death. That's the nice version at least. What Alicia tells herself after a night of nightmares; when she wakes up screaming. To make matters worse Miles encourages this thought process. There is no regret. There is no sympathy. Just death. Alicia knows this reality well. Miles uses this reality to his advantage. Poor pathetic souls led astray by tragedy.

"He raped you. He beat you. You had to do it," are Miles' words.

A teary-eyed Alicia nods. "I hope he rots in hell," she replies.

"How ironic."

It is hope that keeps Alicia going. The hope that Adrian is now suffering for his wrong doings. The hope that tomorrow will be better. The hope that she can be happy with Miles. He's the only one making her smile. She can't help but wonder if he'll end up behaving like Adrian. She remembers when Adrian was the only one making her smile and how he soothed her through troubled times. She eyes Miles wearily as they walk away from Adrian's burial sight.
