Does superglue work?

Dec 28, 2009 17:10

The head of my stratocaster just broke off. No, seriously. I was leaning over to place it in the case, my dog bumped into me, I went sprawling, and my guitar is broken. I've had that guitar for almost eight years. How do I fix it? CAN I fix it? Will it play the same?

Asked a guitarist friend as to what he thought:

Depends on where the break is. If the break hasn't made it to the fretboard/nut at all, then the intonation could still be good, and you'll just be looking at a replacement neck/tuners, but if it's likely the Truss rod was damaged, it could have messed with the rest of the guitars tuning. My advice is unless the guitar is expensive and/or quite sentimental then a replacement neck is one of the less practical surgeries available to a guitar, and even if you do replace the neck, like I said, the tuning could have been affected and the guitar won't sound the same. *insert anecdote of Eddie Van Halen dropping one of his prize guitars and throwing it out because it no longer sounded the same*

My other friend? Not so helpful:
