FanFiction Blues.

In the past week I've written/co written two blogs concerning one author who can't be bothered with rules. There posted at our sites blog here: MMOrg Blog I though I'd share them here.

Report of the Week - Fanfiction gone Wild!
This is just so totally off the charts that I had to share.

The report:

Request By: Fanilia
IP:
Fanfic: I Need You
Reason:
Posting the prologue in the area for the summary. The reason your file stopped is you used ½ you need to take that out and replace it with 1/2 (using 3 key strokes). The story's summary goes in the section for summary. No story may be posted without a valid summary. "Summary inside!" is not valid. Also there is only one paragraph in the Prologue which is a summary. None of it is a prologue. This is not a blog, if you wish to rant on couples, Kikyo's state of aliveness, or gayfics, here is not the place. Stories only have one prologue, not two. The summary of a chapter is not the place to say you can't spell. Again-get a Blog. Your story has no disclaimer. All stories must have a disclaimer giving credit to the owners/creators of the worlds/characters you are writing about. Your type is wrong; a Crossover cannot be a Continuation, it is a CROSSOVER. You may not post Author's Notes in place of a chapter. You CANNOT demand reviews before posting additional chapters. And you cannot have your readers decide how you will proceed in a story. Every one of these violations are of rules posted and available for you to read. Not only that you posted plagiarized art. If the art isn't yours you can't just take it and put it in a gallery that has your name labeled as the artist. Think of it as shoplifting art. If you had read even a fraction of the rules I would not be typing this report.

Can you spot the violations in the above pictures?

At least it wasn't interactive....

Follow-up to Fanfiction Gone Wild - 'Get a Life Loser'

At first I wasn't sure whether to be irritated or amused by an e-mail we received in the Webmaster's e-mail account. The message was a reply to the report I sent to an author/artist and also posted in the blog before this one. I guess it's funnier when you don't take into consideration that this kid feels that she can do as she pleases anywhere she wants online.

This kid is nothing but a spoiled brat. Granted, the report I typed up and sent her for the deletion of her fiction was harsh. This author broke at least half the site's rules, and it showed a lack of respect for the site and the readers.

This site is home to over 130,000 registered members. Though only a portion of these members are active, they post stories and art on a daily basis. Over 100 fictions are updated daily; this does NOT include new stories, only existing ones. Most of those who violate the rules do it unintentionally or have not updated their fictions when we update the rules to reflect changes. Not so with this author and the few like her: they abuse the site.

Ever wonder why readers have to wade through piles of crap to find anything worth reading? Read the reply we received back and then you won't have to wonder anymore.

I read the rules ... I just chose not to listen to them since they are stupid.

Plagiarism I can understand. Excuse me! I found the picture on google.com, Okay?

Also I just w to know if people liked my fic enough to have it continue. So i wanted one more review. What's wrong with that?!?!

And all I said was she was alive. Oh my gosh I was telling people that in my fanfiction Kikyo is alive ... it's so horrible right? And I did not rant about couples! All I said about couples was what the couples are and also that if people flame me about them I don't care!

And I said summary inside because my summary is so long that I didn't wanna put it there since it's so long!

Why can't I put a summary as a prologue? Since when can you control the way people's damn fanfics go? Hmmm?!

And I thought I included a disclaimer. I didn't well so-o-o-orry!

Oh my gosh ... you don't have the power to tell people what is wrong with their fanfics just because of the contents of it and the way they like to portray things. Get a life!

My reply to this is: Grow up.

Offically we (myself and the mod staff) will be sending out the following e-mail and then removing the account.

I'm sorry you chose not to listen to the rules. Whether you like the rules or not is up to you - however, if you choose to use THIS SITE, you must abide by the rules.

It is NOT okay to simply find images on Google and post them in your gallery, whether they're meant to go with your fiction or not. It is STILL stealing art - that's why Google puts a warning on their Google Image Search that says "Image may be scaled down and subject to copyright." This means that YOU need to CHECK to see if the image is copyrighted to someone. 99.999% of the time, it IS. It is then YOUR obligation to CONTACT the person who owns the rights to the image and ASK PERMISSION to use it. Google Image Search is NOT a get-away-with-plagiarism card.

Your sarcasm needs work. All you did was illustrate the fact that YES, you WERE ranting about Kikyo and couples in your fic, and telling people you don't care about flames only entices the ones who were going to do it anyway.

If your summary is too long for the summary blank, then it is not a good summary. Work on your writing skills so that you can write an effective summary. You can't put a summary as a prologue because A SUMMARY IS NOT A PROLOGUE. From Dictionary.com: "prologue (noun) 1. a preliminary discourse; a preface or introductory part of a discourse, poem, or novel." "summary (noun) 1. a comprehensive and usually brief abstract, recapitulation, or compendium of previously stated facts or statements."

Since when can we control the way people's fanfics go? Never. Since when can we control the way people's fanfics go when they're posted on this site? SINCE THE SITE STARTED.

You have had many opportunities to double-check your fiction to be sure it abides by the rules, including the disclaimer rule. We have posted many reminders, and a notice is posted every time the rules are updated.

Yes, we DO have the power to tell people what is wrong with their fanfics WHEN THEY'RE POSTED ON THIS SITE. While I'm getting a life, you GET A BRAIN. It may aid you in the coming years.

Again, the reply on our end is quite harsh, but we deal with this more times than necessary. Frankly, we are tired of it.

Thank you to all the members who make an effort to follow the site's rules; you are the only reason we don't just say forget it and close down the Fanfiction portion of the site.

The Fanfiction Moderation staff.
