It's in one of the scenes where Maester Cressen is climbing up the stairs in his chambers or something, and he mentions that the stairs are ( Read more... )

It's probably Valyrian steel and totally because Visenya and Rhaenys had a thing for modern internal decoration :PP

Aegon: Stairs have to be stone
Visenya: Aegon, you're so last century. The fashionable king has metallic decoration in it's castle. It's all there in Valyrian Decor Magazine of this month :P

rofl I now want a whole series of At Home With the Conqueror!

Rhaenys: omg interiors should be SHINY.
Aegon: Stairs should not be smoothy and METAL.
Rhaenys: You got your stupid ugly damn table room!!!
Aegon: IT HAS A PURPOSE.
Rhaenys: Most boys go to the bathroom for their alone time, you know.
Aegon: OMFG.
Visenya: VALYRIAN DECOR SAYS ITS OK.
Aegon: VALYRIA DIED FOR A REASON.
Raenys and Visenya: D:
Aegon: ...
Rhaenys: *wibble*
Aegon: *facepalm* fine. metal. Now I'm going to go CONQUOR THE WORLD SO I CAN GET AWAY FROM YOU BOTH.
Visenya: You know you love me. xoxo, little a!!

Sure they did! Only it's powered by dragon steam and some idiot took out the boiler rooms to put in that extra torture chamber about a hundred years back.

My thought is that sure, a metal staircase looks cool but, uh, it's steel. On the stairs. And there's no mention of tread. Are they just trying to kill their servants in winter or what?
