Picnicking with the family

[Tim lingers on the swings at the park, glancing back and forth in hope of spotting Clark or Max and the kids, getting a little nervous.]

[Clark has his hands in the pockets of his worn jeans, his plaid work shirt neatly tucked in. His palms are sweating, so he keeps wiping them on the lining of his pockets or on his thighs. He spotted Tim when Clark was still a few blocks from the park, but walking at human speed is drawing out the moment. He finally comes into Tim's line of sight, around a group of trees, and waves self-consciously once Tim glances in his general direction.]

[Tim smiles brightly and rushes over to hug Clark, almost tripping over his own feet in the effort.] You came. [His tone is grateful and relieved.] Thank you!

[He catches Tim and holds him against him, bending to touch his cheek to Tim's hair.] Of course I did. You invited me...

And you've already met my mother... only fair, right? [There's a bit of a tease to his voice, but he is pretty nervous, and that comes through]. I've never done the meet-the-family thing before. I only had one girlfriend in school, and I'd known her family since I was a kid.

[He hugs Clark tightly and presses a soft kiss to his cheek.] That means a lot to me.

To be fair, I already knew your mother. She's a wonderful lady. And that pie she made me was just amazing. [He ducks his head as they walk back to the swings.] I should warn you, Max can be a bit of a tease and fierce she really is wonderful. Don't be shocked if she threatens to do something horrible to you if you hurt me. She doesn't mean it. I think...
