I'm just studying blood samples right now. But, I'm really trying to isolate the virus.

[He can feel her giggle behind him and faintly smiles despite himself.]

And if I can locate it, then perhaps, I can cure it.

[Thomas was splayed out not too far away, lying on his back on the hard floor and staring up at the ceiling. The air was a different kind of warm, a muggy kind of warm that didn't help any. He makes a noise in his throat and shifts to his belly (hoodie long since abandoned and now only in a loose wife-beater shirt and a pair of sweats that have seen far too many days. Bandages newly wrapped around ankles, thighs, knees, arms, face...everywhere). The floor was much cooler.

He turns his head and watches Gede move around the room. The world looked different from the side.]

[Gede hums a little and continues his work, deftly mixing liquids with a few disposable pipettes.]

[Thomas pushes himself up and crawls over to Gede, once again flopping down and splaying himself out against the scientist's feet and the floor. He affectionately gnaws on the toe of Gede's shoe, getting some of the shoelace snagged between his teeth.]

[He chuckles and doesn't even have to look down to know what's transpired, surreptitiously nudging rubber baster off the counter for Thomas to play with.]
