Johnny had checked in, dumped his bag on his bed, and called Savannah. He didn't get away as early as he would have liked, but he was close and he hoped that made a difference.
Savannah got there as soon as she could. From her white face and dark circles beneath her eyes, it was obvious that if she slept at all it hand't been much.
He'd been pacing, counting down the seconds until he heard that knock. Rushing to the door he opened it quickly and it took but a look at her before he was pulling her in, and Johnny actually lifted her in his arms to cradle her against him.
He kicked the door shut with the heel of his shoe and then stepped towards the bed where he sat, holding her close. "Aw, sweetheart..." he murmured. "You're here now, baby."
He held her tight and held her close and rocked gently back and forth. This was what she needed. "Shhh, sweetheart," he whispered. "It's okay. It'll be okay." Kicking his shoes off, he reached down to take hers off for her, and then scooted back, bringing her with him as he lay down, keeping her against him.
