I love in how in like... all of these TL;DR it's all: And Vash died.
XD And that's it. Obviously I need to do something really tramatic so you guys have something else to angst over and have something else to think about with him. MUW HA HAH!
(is totally just kiddng as obviously these things are more about canon mates. I'm just always amused that Vash is mentioned dying and then never again! XD)
Pfft, amusingly enough, Nami dragging Usopp out to the bar like that? was the turning point for her angst as well and she kind of rubber-banded from angsting over Sanji to just being ridiculously, ridiculously busy and cheerful in an attempt to cope ...
...and I'm not actually sure why, which means this needs dissecting. But I strongly suspect it comes down to finding that trying to cheer Usopp up made her feel better herself and she just ...y'know. Wanted some of that. OR SOMETHING.
...all you people and your tl;drs. I will have to do the same. >>
It is one of those dynamics that makes our crew kick ass, of course. X3b Usopp felt it would be prudent to let you borrow his method, Nami, since you did free him of that horrible angst-pit.
Wonderful essay, very pleasant and informative. (Could I just be greedy and say I really like to see one for canon Usopp as well, should you ever feel like it? Just ignore if you don't!)[edit: That does sound greedy and entitled... apologies./edit] Very interesting to see all the reasoning behind the playing. He's always felt IC to me (barring experiments edit: the non-negative experiment, obviously, but that was the point). But I couldn't always have said why he did, and here it's all expressed.
(Personally - just as a general statement, unrelated to RP - I've always seen Usopp as a protector, though. You're right in that he doesn't always succeed, but he has played the part of physical rescuer quite a few times - and the protective instinct is still usually what makes him step up and fight. I read this Zoro-Usopp bodyswitch fic once where Zoro was trying to teach him the bases of swordfighting (because Zoro's body needed to train); the point was made that Usopp's just no good at attacking people if he's got no-one around to
