Cat update

Well, those of you who talked to me yesterday already know that I got some pretty scary news. When I took Rascal to the vet, I was sort of expecting to be told that it wasn't anything serious, cats get sick sometimes, etc. Instead the vet pointed out that she was jaundiced--obvious after he told me, but how often do you look at a cat's skin ( Read more... )

I'm so glad to hear that your cat is going to get better. Poor kitty.

Huzzah for resilient kitties. We had a kitten (Jewel-all white) who died of jaundice. It was weird because she had just been to the vet a week before. All of a sudden, her entire body was yellow. The vet didn't do much. I'm glad it's ENTIRELY different with your kitty.
P.S. I didn't really like Jewel. She attacked me ALL THE TIME!

I'll have to ask the vet if he knows what caused the infection. It seemed pretty random in this case too, but I sort of attributed it to Rascal's not being so young anymore.

I'm sorry about your kitten.

Yeah! That is awesome news. Did they think that her injury could have led to the infection? Poor thing's been through so much. You really shouldn't put her through the stress of moving to North Carolina. You should totally stay here with her were she's happy.

I have to admit I have a lot of questions about cats and nine-hour car rides. I'll probably have to call up Veronica and ask how she managed with Wendell.

Just read your response. I would ask your vet to be sure, but if you have a carrier for her that doesn't give her much room to move around, that should be fine for the trip. The only thing is you might have to stop every couple of hours to let her out to use her litter box. She WILL be stressed, but the antibiotics should really help with that! The most stress may be the new environment in NC, but as long as you're there for awhile to acclimate her, it should be fine! :) Just my thoughts though! GOOD LUCK!

Haha...yeah it's awesome if I get there. haha. I'm glad to hear Rascal is okay. It sounds like she should be fine now that it's done. Did the vet say whether he thought it was caused by the car accident or maybe genetic? Probably didn't know? Anyway, just curious. Hopefully I'll be able to get clients like you who will let me do all this and won't just put her down!!!

I love that attitude! (please don't take any of this the wrong way kathi) I hate when people rush into having their pets put down. So many people get caught up in the easy way out rather than exploring all the options. I've had more pets than I can count in my life and not a single one had to be put down. Between the six of us there's always been someone to give the animals the extra care they may need. I know not everyone can though.

? I'm not offended. Buster is the only pet we've ever put down, and he couldn't walk. We gave him arthritis medicine for like two years before that.
