Videogames

I beat Wild Arms (the first one) last week, and this week I am working on Final Fantasy IX. I got in a discussion with Josh a while back about the absurd number of videogames I really liked but never beat, either because I got too busy or because I got involved in a different game. I can only think of sixteen games I've actually beaten, which is ( Read more... )

Wow. I'm surprised at the low number. You really do need to get to work. But then, is it better to have beaten so many games? Doesn't that kinda mean time better spent elsewhere?

Hmmm.

Yeah, but I AM putting in the time--on games I've already played, or by restarting again and again.

I'm the same way. I'm always so interested in the game, and then I start to question why I'm spending so much time on the video game, usually when I'm off doing something monotonous like gaining levels or something. I can't remember the last time I beat a game. I remember when I started to really lose interest...I put in about 60 hours in Xenogears for the playstation and accidently saved over my own game when I was helping my brother out in his game (when I went to save, without thinking, I placed the cursor over my own game and pressed save....it still makes me wince just thinking about it). Come to think of it, Fire Emblem has been the closest to getting me interested again in RPG's.

That is the worst feeling ever! I did the exact same thing with Dark Wizard on Sega CD. You pick from four generals to start the game, and when I was about 50 hours in I got curious about what one of the other generals was like. I played her for about half an hour and decided to quit, and I saved over my real game file out of pure force of habit. Those little "Are you sure you want to overwrite the file?" screens don't help at all--saying yes is just part of the system. You should have heard the screams of agony that day.

You have beaten more games than I have. Though, I haven't played many, being only with a hook-up-to-the-TV-less Nintendo (as in NES) my whole life until I met you people.
I remember you beating Xenosaga. The disappointment. The rage at all the unanswered questions. The cd cleaner of mine that you ripped the brush off of. Ah, memories.
Still. Despite the number of games you've played and haven't beaten, the only one I'm shocked at is Ocarina of Time. Said to be the greatest Zelda game ever made and YOU (who would jump any guy even wearing a Link outfit) don't beat it? That's the only thing I find baffling.

I know what you mean. But even though Ocarina of Time has the best character modeling for Link, it was Link to the Past and especially the Nintendo Power comics based on Link to the Past that first made me fall in love with him.

That said, I still would like to beat Ocarina of Time someday. I was doing well the first time until I got to the underwater palace with the longshot in it, where I was woefully stuck for about a month. My brother eventually beat it for me, but by then I'd forgotten so much about where I was and what I had done already that I decided to start over. Unfortunately, it's not a game that I can play for very long at a time. The 3-D enviroment is WAY scary--my heart races and I scream a lot. I can't handle surprise attacks from enemies!
