Ohno didn't notice what time he fell asleep. When he woke up, he was all alone in the room. Nino was nowhere to be seen, making him wonder if what happened between them the night before was merely his imagination.
But, it wasn't.
Though it was faint, Ohno could hear Nino's voice from the other side of the house. He appeared to be singing. Curious to know what Nino had been up to, Ohno wore his boxer and then headed out of the room.
Nino was in the kitchen, singing happily as he put an egg in the pan. He was wearing Ohno's t-shirt.
Nino in his kitchen…
Nino wearing his t-shirt…
That was a sight that he thought would only happen in his dream. He couldn't take his eyes off the man, wishing that he could see this scene every day. But, the happy thought of living together with Nino immediately shattered when he remembered what happened yesterday. Nino hadn't said the words that he wanted to hear the most.
Indeed, when Nino didn't respond to his confession, he brushed it off as if it didn't hurt him. He understood they had only known each other for two weeks and there’s more he needed to know about his Little Cupid. But, honestly, he was heartbroken. He didn’t understand. From the way Nino treated him, he could feel the love. But, why couldn’t Nino say those words back? At least, instead of saying love, he would be satisfied if Nino would simply say he liked Ohno. But, his boyfriend said neither. It wasn’t his intention to be an asshole, pushing Nino to say something he wasn’t ready yet. But, honestly, it was painful.
“How long are you going to stare at me creepily like that, Ohchan?”
He blinked his eyes in surprise when Nino stood in front of him. The other man smirked at him and then gently ruffled his hair.
“You are so beautiful. I cannot take my eyes off you,” He repeated what he had said the night before.
Nino’s cheeks went red to hear his compliment. Awh, how he loved the bashful Nino so much! He went ahead and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend’s waist before leaning forward for a kiss, which Nino happily responded.
“Stop calling me beautiful,” whined Nino once they let go of each other. “I’m not a girl, you know,”
Ohno simply chuckled. He loved it when Nino grumbled like this. His boyfriend was so cute. Everything about Nino was so beautiful and cute. And, he was happy to be allowed to see this side of Nino.
“Go and brush your teeth first. Then, we can have breakfast together,” ordered Nino, pushing him to the bathroom. “Your morning breath is awful, you know,”
“Really? I didn’t hear you complain when we kissed earlier,”
“Shut up and go!”
Ohno let out a hearty laugh and then left for the bathroom. It would be great if he could wake up to this every day.
The two of them ate breakfast together in the living room while watching television. They sat close together on the couch until there was no space between them. Neither of them talked, pretending to have their attention on the program they were watching. Sometimes, Nino would brush his hand against Ohno. So, Ohno would look at him, resulting in the two of them giggling.
“I have to go home,” Nino suddenly said. Ohno glanced at the clock, noticing it was only 10 AM.
“Why? Just stay in my house, please,” he begged using his puppy eyes. It’s the best weapon he had. People rarely said no to him when he did that. And he could see that Nino was also weak against his puppy eyes.
However, much to his surprise, his puppy eyes did not work this time. Nino stuck out his tongue and then shook his head.
“Sorry, I have to go home,” Nino sighed. Seeing that Nino was reluctant to go made him feel better. “My building manager will come to my house later. I have a problem because of the low water pressure and he will come to check. Want to come with me?”
Hoho, that was a great offer and he was tempted to say yes. But, he also had things he wanted to do. So, he shook his head with a heavy heart.
“Sorry, Little Cupid. I have something to do too,” He told his boyfriend, earning a pout from Nino. He leaned forward and kissed Nino’s forehead. The thought of how Nino was sulking because he couldn’t come along made him happy. He just had to wait. One day, Nino would definitely say those words to him. But, why was it so difficult to be patient?
“It’s okay,” said Nino. “Hopefully, it won’t take long so we can have lunch together. Hmm… what time is your birthday party?”
Ah, he almost forgot about the party. Admittedly, he didn’t want to go. But, the prospect of introducing Nino as his boyfriend made him look forward to it. His parents would love Nino, he knew that.
“At 8,” He informed his boyfriend. “Text me when you’re done, okay,”
Nino nodded his head. 30 minutes later, the two of them parted ways. Nino headed home while he went to Sho’s house.
Truthfully, Ohno had no reason to go to Sho’s house. But, he had to talk to someone about his frustration, which was, Nino’s inability to utter the words he wanted to hear the most. Was it hypocrite of him to pretend he was okay with it? But, if he forced Nino to say those words, it might drive Nino away from him. That’s why he decided to talk to Sho. if there’s anyone who could help him with this situation, it’s definitely Sho.
However, much to his surprise, it wasn’t Sho who answered the door.
It was Aiba.
Ah, he smacked his head, remembering what Nino told him yesterday. Apparently, something was going on between his friend and Nino’s ex-boyfriend.
“Ohchan!” The man was excited to see Ohno as he pulled him into a hug. “What are you doing here? Ah, it must be to see Sho-chan, right? I’m sorry. He will be back shortly,”
Aiba invited him inside and Ohno hesitated at first. He didn’t know if it’s wise of him to be alone with Nino’s ex-boyfriend. But, Aiba looked nice and friendly. If he needed anyone to help him understanding Nino, Aiba would be the best choice, right? So, he took a deep breath and entered the house.
“Where did Sho go?” Asked Ohno as he took a seat on the couch. Aiba followed suit and sat next to him.
“I’m not sure. Something about work, I think,” answered Aiba. The man smiled at him mischievously and he was anxious to know what the smile meant. “So, everything is okay between you and Kazu-chan? He spent the night at your house, right? What did you guys do?”
Ohno looked away, suddenly feeling embarrassed with how this conversation turned out to be. Indeed, he wanted to talk to Aiba about Nino but this wasn’t what he wanted to talk about.
“Awh, did you guys do it?” Aiba continued to tease when he chose to be silent. Ohno didn’t answer but his silence confirmed what Aiba had thought. So, the other man grinned widely because of that.
“I’m so happy for you!” Aiba exclaimed. “Finally! I know it! I know you will be Kazu’s first! I could see from the way he looked at you! He…”
Something that Aiba said caught his attention. What did Aiba mean when he said Ohno was Nino’s first?
“I am his first what?” Ohno asked confusedly. He had a hunch of what that meant. But, did that even make sense? Nino and Aiba had been in a relationship before. Surely, they had done it too!
Aiba looked at him with a soft smile. He seemed to understand what Ohno had been thinking about. “Kazu-chan and I never did it. He wasn’t ready,”
“Huh?” Ohno’s jaw dropped. The revelation took him by surprise. Seeing how forward Nino was last night, he didn’t expect it was Nino’s first time doing it.
Aiba responded with a smile, softly patting his head. Even though he was smiling, Ohno could see a hint of sadness in his eyes. A thought struck his mind. Did Aiba still love Nino and was unhappy because Nino is now with Ohno? If so, what was his relationship with Sho, then? Aren’t they together?
“Do you still love Little Cupid?” asked Ohno, voicing out the thoughts he had.
Aiba didn’t seem surprised as he shook his head.
“I adore you for making such a cute nickname for Kazu-chan,” Aiba grinned widely. “You don’t have to worry about me and Kazu-chan, ne. What happened between us… it was in the past. I have moved on and so did Kazu-chan. Please treasure him, okay? If you ever hurt him, I wouldn’t hesitate to make you suffer,”
Since they met, Aiba had always been friendly to him. So, it was weird to see the man threatening Ohno with a solemn face. He may not look intimidating but, Ohno knew it would be foolish to not take him seriously. But, don’t worry. Ohno wouldn’t do anything that would hurt Nino.
“I will treasure him,” assured Ohno. “But, if you don’t love him anymore, why do you look sad just now?”
“I look sad?” asked Aiba confusedly. “Ah, maybe because I was thinking about the past,”
Ohno was tempted to ask more about it. He wanted to know more about Nino’s past relationship from Aiba’s perspective this time. But, it wasn’t because he didn’t trust what Nino had told him. He simply thought… hmmm… maybe, Aiba had another reason to ask for a breakup.
“Do you mind if I ask you something? About your breakup with Little Cupid?” His curiosity got the better of him. So, he didn’t hesitate to ask. It’s weird. At first, he was worried that Aiba wanted to sabotage his relationship with Nino as Sho had claimed at the aquarium. However, as he talked with the man, he started to trust the man. And, he hoped, it wasn’t a stupid decision that would put his relationship with Nino on jeopardy.
Aiba stayed silent as he considered the request. “Did Kazu-chan ever tell you about us?”
“Well… he told me that you chose the charity work over him,”
Aiba let out a sigh and for Ohno, it proved that, indeed, the man had another reason to end the relationship with Nino.
