This is a really enjoyable story! I agree with those who said Faramir and Bilbo would get on; Bilbo is such a companionable hobbit, and our Steward would definitely be interested in another Halfling.

I'm especially grateful for this bit about "fire": "If I jumped every time I heard the word, Master Baggins, I would never get anything done at all." You know, this is just great...your Faramir is not an emotional wreck, but a strong and cool guy who knows how to move on and does it. I love seeing him like that, and that's another reason why your story is a delight. :)

Thanks for a cool read!

I love seeing him like that too. Not that I don't read stories where Faramir is an emotional wreck (because I do and often enjoy those too) but it always seems just a bit out of keeping with his character. Glad you enjoyed it!

I used to read stories with a super-angsty Faramir when I was a newbie to the fandom, but I lost both interest and tolerance for them now, I'm afraid. That's why I bounce up and down every time I read him the way you did him here!! :)))))

Thank you so much! This is a delightful fic in so many ways. The choice of characters is refreshing, and you write both of them so well. Though Faramir still grieves for his losses, he doesn't show a hint of self-pity, and Bilbo treats him with plain-spoken kindness and understanding. The affinity between them in this fic is very believable since they have so many shared interests and shared acquaintances to draw them together. I loved the thought of Boromir reading the manuscript of "The Hobbit"! I also loved that Bilbo had preserved a legacy of Boromir that Faramir could someday share with his children. I can't think of any more precious gift that he could have given Faramir. Thanks for creating this beautifully-written and very touching fic.
