When I meant that I wanted to ensure that the Hurins are appreciated by Gondorians, I meant that I wanted OTHER writers to understand this, because Tolkien was so clear about this and yet others sometimes ignore it because they're such diehard fans of Aragorn or some other character, and so choose to denigrate the Stewards to make their own characters look better.

And as for Latin - I'd love to chat too!! I look forward to getting to know you better over the coming months!! You'll have to tell me who you're reading in university... :)

Oh wow...are you sure this is your first fanfiction story? Because it's a quality work in more than one respect! I really like your characterization of Faramir, and I'm extremely grateful to you for a lot of things here: you didn't make him an angsty puddle of mush wailing "Daddy didn't love me" and you didn't give him a horrible inferiority complex. Here in this story, I do see a mature, wise man who knows how to deal with grief and troubled past. Oh, and decent Denethor? THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU ( ... )

Hello, neighbor! :)

I'm so, so, soooo happy you were not disappointed by this fic! I was afraid you would be, seeing that I chose to tackle this subject... I really admire the House of Stewards, and I think Mardil is a much more important character - if he hadn't taken the rule, Gondor would have fallen into anarchy! And Denethor, he was a very good ruler at the beginning, Gondor should have been more grateful! :( So I just had to do them some justice... :)

The Banners motif... I'm glad you have a nicer association now... And I have to admit I wouldn't have developped the theme if it hadn't been for Arahiril! :) She did an excellent job at making me think more about it and produce a better story...

And yes, this *is* my very first fanfiction written for Lord of the Rings. Wrote a few for a couple of other fandoms, but none of them was so challengig as writting this one! :) It was a pleasure to write it for you, and thanks for your appreciation! :)

Thanks for leaving a comment, dear! I'm sure Denethor loved Faramir, and not only because he was the only son he had left! The Palantir and what he saw in it made Denethor mad, but he was not an evil man... Think about the way he mourns when Faramir is wounded: "I sent my son forth, unthanked, unblessed, out into needless peril, and here he lies with poison in his veins"... Very dramatic!

This is really well done...I never would have guessed this was your first story in the LotR fandom.

I'm particularly glad that you didn't take the "easy way out" and make Faramir despondent over his father's death, because Denethor despised him, abused him, whatever. It's always nice to encounter new writers who tread off the beaten path in that respect! :)

Thank you! :)

I really had in mind to avoid making Faramir despondent or weak, because he truly is not! A man who has the strenght to resist the temptation of the Ring can *never* be a weeping mess! I don't think Denethor abused his son willingly, he *did* love Faramir... in his own way, of course.

So... very glad you read the fic! Thanks for reviewing! :)

Like everyone else has said, WOW. I cannot believe this is your first story in this fandom. I felt like I was reading a scene from the book that simply got left out somehow. I've read stories about this scene before, but never one that felt as if it could have come from Tolkien himself. Well done!

Well, as I said, I just relied heavily on the book itself... :)

Thanks for reading, I'm glad you were impressed! :D
