Short and sweet! I liked it. :) Poor Rangers, glad they both got some sleep eventually!

*chuckle* It's funny I should get your comment today, because I didn't get any sleep at all the night before last one!! I guess the Rangers took their revenge on me for making them stay up in this story. :-D

Thanks for the feedback! I'm happy you liked the fic :)

I enjoyed this very much.It is very Faramir that he can understand the dilemma of killing men who just happen to be on the wrong side.Very well written and I liked the OC too.

Thanks, Linda! I did go for something very Faramir, as you put it, and I'm glad you can read it that way, and I'm glad you like my OC! I've grown rather fond of him myself. ;)

I think this was also inspired a bit by a story by the wonderful Czech writer Karel Capek, in which God employed professional judges for the person's last "trial." He said He could not judge people personally because He knew all about them...

A very interesting glimpse into the Rangers' lives, and into Faramir's thoughts--I enjoyed this very much!

Thank you! I'd only written one scene with Ithilien Rangers in another story, so I'm still only dipping my toe in the topic, but writing about them is really fascinating. I'm glad you liked this one!

This was absolutely lovely!

There isn't much fic out there about this time in Faramir's life, and this was an excellent topic, for I'm sure new soldiers do feel differently about killing orcs vs. other men.

Your OC was incredibly likable, too!

All in all, a lovely read! =D

Thanks very much for the comment! And also, thank you for your kind words about my OC -- I want to hug him myself. *chuckle*

I do feel good about the topic I chose, since it allows me to state in fiction mode that I don't see Tolkienverse as, well, racist. Actually, I'm not sure I'd think about that dilemma at all if it hadn't been for that story by Cressida!

Wow. This was a very dramatic story! I mean, even if it doesn't describe the battle itself, it includes all the powerful and tragic feelings such a battle implies... It kinda reminded me of "All Quiet on the Western Front" by Erich Maria Remarque... And your choice of title is perfect!

I liked your original character too, but I really loved your Faramir! Not simply warior!Faramir, but *the* Faramir we all know from the book, the one who said those words that I think synthetize Tolkien's own idea about war: "I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend..."

Your fic was really deep and thought-provoking, I truly enjoied reading it! :)

Wow, thank you! This is a really nice comment. :)

I'm really fascinated with the Faramir you talk about, that's why I usually try to keep him in mind whenever I write him. I also wanted to give him a "companion" here, and I'm glad my OC works for you! And of course having someone refer to your story as thought-provoking is one of the nicest things you can get. :)

Thanks for the feedback!
