If certain Jack Nicholson impersonators are any indication of a sizable segment of the Republicans, then they think people like Christie are the problem, and more extremism is what's needed. I'm both appalled at what it is they suggest, and somewhat hopeful (because ultimately it will continue to spell defeats in national races - but the continued victories in already well-locked-in districts will track more and more extreme, meaning more tea party folks governing. What a strange dichotomy.)
