I'm not a religious sort, but glancing at the date on this thing reminded me that Marmas is in a week ( Read more... )

Last year there was a girl who did. Some sort of monk from the Wastelands.

Gone now, naturally.

Oh? I've raced through the Golden Order's temple--I wonder if she was one of the monks I pissed off in the process.

[That would really be pretty much ALL OF THEM so yeah, Razer. Yeah.]

It doesn't seem right not to celebrate, somehow or another. Neither of us are particularly fond of him, of course, but a holiday is a holiday.

...I wonder if Torn knows how to throw a Marmas party? He's religious, isn't he?

He's a slum-rat. They cling to religion like a rope that will save them from drowning.

So, yes.

[Maybe Torn could be conned into doing something about it. Erol hasn't really spoken to this version much... hmmmm.]

I didn't realize there was a Wasteland circuit. Did Metal Heads swallow the occasional car?

[Zoomer racing is insular, ok? And feeds from Kras suck. :| ]

Not that I'm aware of, but I didn't race on most of the Wasteland tracks. I generally avoid the desert if I can.

[He sunburns like you would not believe.]

Still, there is something oddly amusing about racing through a giant house of worship shooting at people, trying not to get soaked on some levels and running your opponent off into lava on others. Whoever built that temple had an interesting idea of interior design.

I'm always up for free drinks.

This ship is full of free drinks, it wouldn't really be anything new.

I'm better at goin' ta parties than throwin' them, Smokestack.

[Have a hearty chuckle.]

It's already lil' Jakkie-Boy's birthday? I'm all fer makin' the kid feel special.

...That's an ironic nickname coming from you.

[And yet he does not deny it's accuracy.]

As for Jak, if I'm not mistaken he'll be twenty years old next week. Certainly getting on in years, for a man in his position.

[Wait, what?]

Don't ya mean he's turnin' 19?

[You can hear the eyeroll in his tone.]

No, Jinx, I mean twenty. He's nineteen now.

[That would be an apt assessment, Razer. But while he's not the partygoing type, and though the event has been rather depressing to him as of late, it's something he understands entirely.]

I know all of the traditions; I believe it would be very simple for me to set up.

[Once he got some other people working on it, that is.]

How is it celebrated in Kras, for curiosity's sake?

There is some praying and chants, here and there, but for the most part it's just an excuse to get roaring drunk. There's a little gift-giving here and there, and some businesses use it as the basis of contests and the like.

[His tone brightens.]

Last year, the winner of a raffle at my favorite restaurant got to have their photo taken with me. The winner auctioned off her voucher to finance the down payment on a house.

[He's not even joking.]

[Yeah he's not even going to comment on the photo story. He changes the subject back with his usual lack of finesse.]

Anyway, I will arrange something that is more... traditional fare, for Marmas.

Marmas, hm? Guess it's been a while. Guess we should do something, too.

Putting together a party has never been my expertise.

I don't think most of us are particularly skilled in that area. If Blitz were still around I'm sure he'd be more than willing, but...well, I'm significantly more happy to have him gone than I would be to have him around to plan a party.

We'll figure out something, I'm sure.

We usually do. Our race is known for being rather resourceful.
