Key has a diary. Key has a diary that he adds to everyday without fail. No matter how late the schedule or how exhausted he is, he will always add to the growing collection of words, sentences and thoughts. But his diary is like no other. Although the words on the front read so and he addresses as so it is not a diary. Well at least not in the conventional sense. See Key’s diary is more of a story than a documentation of his day. He builds up his novel day after day after day with stories that no one else will ever see. It’s the novel of Key’s life; well the life he wishes he had.
The story contained within the weathered and used pages is not one of this world, but another; the world hidden within Key’s mind. He writes of the daily happenings of this secret place and by doing so creates memories that he has never experienced. They’re memories that are fake yet infinitesimally precious to him. Memories he wishes were real; they’re his fairy tale instead. His diary is the second most important thing to him - the first is what he fills it with. Jonghyun.
The tale of him and Jonghyun is one he clings to desperately as in the world of the book they are together. They exist together. They live together. They love each other. Sometimes Key wishes for this alternative reality so much that the lines between fiction and reality blur and the real memories are polluted by the fake. The fantasies become the non-fiction. The dream becomes real. But at the end of the day it’s just a diary, he’s just a boy and Jonghyun is just another boy. There is no Jonghyun and Key; only Jonghyun, and Key. Only in the book’s reality is the opposite true.
One day the diary was gone. Key searched and searched, and searched again but to no avail; his one place of comfort had disappeared and he had no idea to where or who. The ‘who’ is what scared him the most since depending on the person’s nature things could be bad, good or catastrophic. If it was Minho then he would forever be blackmailed, if Taemin did then, though awkwardly, it’d be returned, if it was Onew they the diary is definitely long gone. But if it was Jonghyun. He didn’t even want to imagine that possibility; doing so causes fear to grip his chest so tightly that his entire body trembles right down to the core.
Key sat down; he was defeated. A sigh left his worry tightened lips and his head lolled down to rest on his cold desk. The dorm was serene but he was far from at peace. A single knock sounded of the door - worrying Key. In a dorm where they shared one bedroom this occurrence was unprecedented. He swallowed nervously. The door slowly opened to reveal Jonghyun - diary in hand. Key froze. Jonghyun’s face was unreadable as he approached Key who was preparing himself for the worst. Jonghyun stopped before him. Key looked up. And then; fiction became reality.
