Flute:
- sound is made by the airstream hitting the opposing edge of the mouthhole (amazing how this bit of physics helps folks get a decent sound out of a flute)
- for higher registers, although yes you can blow harder, it's far more efficient (and allows you to get +2 registers rather than just +1) to move your bottom jaw out - narrows the apperture of your lips & therefore increases the force of the airflow without you getting any more out of breath.

Apologies if it sounds like I'm lecturing & even more apologies if you can't make sense of what I'm trying to say... I'm much better at teaching irl than over the internets - although with it being over 8 years since I did serious amounts of practice my skills are very rusty so I probably wouldn't be as good as I should be at demonstrating...

Hehe :) no worries on the lecturing front... Specially in the overtly geeky format.

I had kinda figured out where I need to blow to get the notes *chuckles* just haven't learned how to actually position everything to actually do that.... but the jaw thing is an interesting one. Not that I've managed to get it to work (mainly 'cus the slightest movement and I move in the wrong way... no noise at all)

Just as an ammusing aside, I can actually get +2 registers ... But... not for long, I just don't have the lung capacity for that xD

Thanks for the tips :) I'll pick up the whole lip thing eventually :) I'm not trying to learn seriously or anything, just pick up, see if I can make noise, put down, do something else... Get bored, try again.

If I never get a recognisable tune out of it? Well, at least I'll have fun trying :)

Glad the first day... didn't go unwell? x) The actual job itself sounds like it might be quite promising, and the bad points don't really sound all that bad compared to what they could potentially be. You can wear a jumper to work, ignore the warehouse decor and go out to the lake at lunch or on your breaks, tidy the desk you've been given a bit if you get the time, and the incompetant boss will probably be annoying but with any luck the system will be at least partly intuitive and you can pick some of it up easily anyway. Dressing formally can be a pain, but it's not so bad after a while. :) Well, you probably know.

Yeah, doesn't sound half bad to me. :D

Yeah :) it'll do nicely :)

Better yet, I may have already secured a permanant position :o

Not sure, we'll see if the guy is gonna be blinded by all my other qualifications and try and put me in another department :x

Thankfully he seems more intelligent than that :3

I still have an account there :) but I barely touch it these days :)

Still, that's more because I don't really have anyone I know still playing.

I'll log on from time to time :) Maybe catch you there =^-^=

Heck yeah... I think it's just a shame that I finally land a job in the right direction, and NOW my immune system decides to go on holiday xD

Still, even with a runny nose, I think I impressed my boss xD
