I slowed down in watching all the extras/deleted scenes from the new boxset and hadn't seen this one... I too wish they had kept the Aeryn/Pilot scene, and even the reveal that it was Rygel who went down to get Aeryn's body.
This is a really good episode, and a great start to a season for which it will prove to be all too aptly named. Lots of terrific little moments in it, some of which I'd nearly forgotten. (Like the finger-eating. Ugh!)
But, I have to admit... I loathe ship wars, I really do, and I'm fully aware of the practical reasons that led to Zhaan having to be written out of the show, but I still can't help that my main reaction to this one is to cry, "WHY MUST MY SHIP DIE SO THAT OTHERS' MIGHT LIVE?! WAAAAAAAH!" Well, seriously, "more importantly, Crichton loves you" is beautiful, until you consider the fact that not only is the guy who loves Zhaan right there, but that she's just knocked him out and used him against his will to kill herself. Poor, poor Stark. *sniffle* But I can see why Zhaan would feel downright happy about it. The woman's been carrying around a huge load of spiritual guilt; no doubt she feels that sacrificing herself will be some sort of redemption for her. (No matter who might need her to live. *sniffle

The kiss in the hanger is quite possibly my favorite J/A kiss ever (it's a very close tie with the kiss in the fountain from PKW).

Except Crais running down Scorpius to revenge Aeryn. That was glorious, if sadly misguided.
But Zhaan... *woes*
