I am sorta in love with this fic. It's a cracky premise, but then again, the episode that this is set during is one, too. And in the same way that episode was a pleasant surprise, so is this fic. I love how you set up Celine's life, and the hints that you gave as to why she ended up as a destitute lounge singer.
This:
But the life he painted before her eyes rendered her own life, the life she thought meaningful and good, obsolete, and before she knows it the word is out of her mouth.
line is great, because it's what Dean did for Castiel, in his own way: by showing him that he was free to make his own decisions, he rendered his past life--that of the steadfast soldier of God--obsolete, made it so that he's willing to do anything to hang onto his new vision of the future.
Also? This conversation makes the fact that Dean and Sam woke up in the Impala to My Heart Will Go On seem really touching. A prelude, almost, to his confession that he had Balthazar re-sink the ship and 50,000 souls are gone because he chose the Winchesters over
( ... )
The different life changed her speech pattern/accent? >____> Dude, I've NEVER seen a Celine Dion interview, as you can imagine, so this alt!Celine is a total work of fiction. :P
I think the best thin about this is how quite the whole set up is but just how heavy the conversation turns towards the end. It really is something else everything Cas has to deal with, all those lives that hang in the balance. Its like that line Cas says to Dean, "I don't envy the weight on your shoulders". Cas needs a hug!! :(
