Jim sat. And waited. And tried not to be nervous but failed miserably at that. Then he lit the candles Pam had requested, which was probably not the best thing to do while being nervous. But at least he didn't set anything on fire. That had to be a good omen.

He then continued to wait. Clearly it was an exciting night so far.

Pam was not at all nervous. Why would she be nervous? Nope. No nervousness here, move along.

She'd only spent a good chunk of the afternoon making sure she looked okay -- that her hair wasn't frizzy, that her skin was all soft and stuff (that was probably important, seeing as how skin factored into this kind of thing), that her underwear matched, and so on.

People who weren't nervous routinely changed outfits four times before leaving their room.

But she was here now, and knocking. In a non-nervous fashion.

Jim hopped off the bed and rushed over to the door. This was something that needed a personal touch.

He took a breath, opened the door, and said, "Hi."
