I'm not sure why my family wasn't sent to Louisiana - probably because they settled closer to modern-day Quebec; it seems most of the Acadian exiles were expelled from the maritimes. It's a chapter of Canadian history which isn't well studied outside the area, which is kind of a shame.

Since the exile happened at the beginning of the 7 Year War, there was probably a limited amount of time and reach that Charles Lawrence had. I am not sure, though. Wacky, though, to think I could be in Guelph and you could be in Houston, had things gone just a bit differently for our familes a couple hundred years back :)

1) I don't consider myself to be a part of anything, really. My family are all jewish, but many are ethnic jews as opposed to cultural or religious jews. I'm American, but my views and experiences don't belong to the mainstream. I guess the group I most belong to is whites. My whiteness has given me certain privileges in this society. As a white American there are many things in this world that I cannot, as much as I would like to, ever really understand.
2)Not really.
3)Chinese. There are so many chinese people in science, many of whom don't speak english. It's hard to work with people you can't communicate with.
4)Boston or Chicago
5)I would either like to meet my mom and at my age or as a little girl. Something warped her as a kid and again when I was born and I would like to know who she was before all that shit happened.
