So we are following the advice of  " don't do anything dangerous!" as well as we followed the advice of  "don't go to Columbia" and have spent the last few days doing extreme sports in Columbia. We arrived in Bogota, the humidity back to not saturation levels, but at the altitude high enough to remind us not to run up any stairwells. While it's a nice city and sucks the doors off Lima, the attractions we found ourselves visiting were not nearly as exciting as the places we found to eat our meals and get loaded on Pure freebase Columbian ( Read more... )

The Columbian side of the mighty yellow Amazon river is largely above water, it slopes away a little higher and thus in the wet season is a chance to tread around on terra firma. Leticia, the largest of the bordertowns and in Columbian territory, is unreachable by road, relying on ferryboat supplies, a small airport and satellite dishes for contact ( Read more... )

From Cuzco we bussed north to Albencay, which as some people found out ewarly due to my prolific internet useage there is a bit of a nothing town charming enough for a few hours but when spending 28 hours between busses is really a bit to boring to hold my short childlike attention. We have been moving north throughout the andes, and from LaPaz upwards we knew there were archeological treasures to be seen. In Bolivia, we took a day trip out to Tiwinaku which is a site from a culture which predated the Incas. Last night we bid farewell to fair Sucre and hopped our coach to LaPaz, the nation's capital. All started well, the usual worries of no onboard toilet for a trip which would take >12 hours and the occasional siege by food peddlers trying to hard-sell their wares, but nothing bad. Bolivia. Our bus pulled into town about 6 days ago. The roads are rock and dirt, as only 4% in the entire nation are paved. There is dust everywhere. It is hard to breathe, as pretty much everywhere you'd care to go is above the 3,000 meters above sea level. We have travelled north, now closer to the equator than the south pole. Along the way we picked up an American guy and a Swiss girl who were also headed to Iguazu and decided as a collective to hop a boat which would take us as close to the falls as possible.
