personality: Allen is polite, kind-hearted, and friendly at first glance. Especially polite, always addressing others properly and with an easy smile on his face. It’s what he calls the “mask” of Mana, something he remembers his adoptive father by. Polite, kind, welcoming, it’s not truly a mask since Allen is all of those things but it’s certainly something that he uses to keep others at an emotional distance. It’s the result of a number of things, mostly just how Allen’s life has unfolded up to the current point between abandonment as a child, losing his beloved adoptive father, and then his traumatising apprenticeship under Cross. It’s the side of Allen that most people will see, a half-truth rather than an outright lie.

The key thing to know about Allen though as a person is that he loves everyone and wants to save everyone, humans, Akuma, and Noah. While he doesn’t necessarily force himself to see good in everyone Allen is someone that sees the humanity in everyone and to him they are all worth being saved. He has described himself as a small man, easily moved by the sadness of those that are right in front of him so he’ll leap in to help anyone even if it means risking his own well-being. He doesn’t really consider it reckless because he never considers dying an option, at the same time turning a blind eye to another’s predicament is not an option.

Allen tends to care more for individuals and their feelings rather than rules and consequences. This sometimes leads him to be rather reckless and somewhat rebellious, his concern is for his friends and comrades, his enemies, anyone hurting within his general vicinity, not the Order.

Due to his promise to Mana to keep walking no matter what Allen is forcefully optimistic. Even when he starts to see the shadow of the 14th he decides to look on the bright side. (“At least it’s not talking or anything!”) He forces himself to see everything in positive terms so that he can keep moving forward. Besides, Allen claims, nothing could get him down after his Master’s debts.

Allen is focused and determined, he’s surviving until the next day so that he can save the Akuma, end the war. In a way it is an utterly selfless existence, I doubt that Allen ever thinks about “what if there was no war,” or “what if the war ends tomorrow,” because that is the only thing he is dedicated to. He has never thought of what path he might have to take without the war against the Earl. In the same way it is a very selfish existence, Allen is willing to sacrifice himself and endanger himself without regard for the feelings of those that have come to view him as a friend. It’s something that Lenalee has pointed out to him and something that he’s beginning to acknowledge but honestly Allen just isn’t used to having friends. They’ve become important to him, the only person that he could compare that to would be Mana but Mana is still someone that is held on a pedestal, no matter what people are telling him about his adoptive father.

He’s become a bit more jaded (though he was jaded to begin with) and a bit more distant with the weight of everything that’s happened weighing him down but rather than making him close his heart off in some ways he is more determined than ever to understand others, so that he can help them. He’s spent so long ploughing forward blindly for his own reasons but he’s starting to open up to the idea of trying to understand the 14th that’s been implanted in him. And while he’s all been someone that can see in shades of grey he’s just beginning to understand that the war is even more divided than he would have thought.

abilities: Allen’s left arm is deformed because of the Innocence imbedded in it. His left arm is composed of something entirely not human and when he invokes his Innocence it becomes a pronounced claw and covers him in a white cowl and mask that serves as a body armor. In this form his innocence can perform a number of attacks both close range and long range. He is also able to completely remove his left hand from his body, transforming it into a large two handed sword that is capable of purifying the evil from whoever he strikes. That is to say it kills only the “evil” though the effects of that aren’t always as expected (see Tyki).

Another important note is that the Innocence can control Allen’s body even after Allen himself can no longer stand, essentially it will keep fighting until its host breaks apart.

Allen’s left eye is cursed and he bears a pentagon scar above his left eye that trails down his face. The curse gives Allen the ability to see the souls of the humans bound to the Akuma. Much like Akuma themselves Allen’s cursed eye is capable of evolving, increasing its range of detection and allowing others to share Allen’s sight at this point.

He is also able to control the old Ark in canon using the melody that’s inside him. His Noah genes also seem to wake up and regenerate his body when he’s in mortal danger. However what he can actually do as a Noah is still unclear and Allen is unlikely to use those powers even if he were able to control him.

Also, Allen is the king of cheating when it comes to gambling.
