Everything is relative..

It has been 100 years since Albert Einstein had his miracle year, to my knowledge, no one has accomplished so much in such little time, perhaps Isaac Newton. Einstein, in less than a year, demonstrated that atoms exist, presented the special theory of relativity, and essentially erected quantum theory as we know it. If you are interested in Quantum ( Read more... )

I have a friend who put more eneregy than most people I know into finding a religion that worked. After reading, The Elegant Universe she decided that string theory would be her religion.

According to her, it explained everything that needed explanation, nothing that didn't, and yet still retained enough sense of beauty to transcend just be science.

I myself haven't gotten around to studying quantum physics just yet. If I'm watching PBS it's typically Frontline on tuesday nites.

.... I love my newly added friend.

Have you read Fabric of the Cosmos by Brian Greene? I havn't read The Elegant Universe yet. But I have read a couple of books on Einstein's general and special relativity theory. Very interesting stuff. What has really caught my attention though is Lorentz Transformations (where one coordinate system is traveling inside another) and Einstein's views on simultaneity. Is The Elegant Universe the one on superstrings? I think I glanced through it the last time I was in Barns and Noble.
