[Background]
http://dothack.wikia.com/wiki/Kite [Personality]
At first glance, one wouldn't think that this little guy would have such a capability to take on an entire organization and try to restore balance to a virtual MMO-- and as a matter of fact, they would probably be right. For a kid that got persuaded into a game by one of his best friends, little responsibility would follow. However, throughout the course of his gameplay, this oblivious net player had to learn to grow up... and fast.
For only being in the eight grade, it is only second nature to know that they like to goof off, enjoy their youth, things like that. Here's not to say Kite isn't one of those people, he loves to hang out with his friends and enjoy the company of people around his age. But certain things pushed him forward into realizing that he had more of a role to play then just sitting around and wasting the day away. When his best friend Yasuhiko (or Orca as he is known in The World) falls into a coma because of the effects of the MMO, Kite then steps forward into more of a mature role to finding a cure for his best friend after obtaining an illegal item known as the Twilight bracelet. (see abilities for an elaboration!)
This sheds more a light as to who exactly Kite is. He is extremely loyal to his friends, and will drop everything in the drop of a hat for them. Giving the instance with Yasuhiko, he spends not only his free time, but as much as he can figuring and diving further into The World to discover the cause of the coma. Not only his case, but the different players Kite comes in contact while playing The World. He is often seen getting emails from friendly players (or... not so friendly) to go on assorted quests or obtains items with them. To which this boy has little qualms about going along, regardless of his main objective. He tries the best he can to give attention to everyone he meets, even if some of them might not be the nicest of people. This also just doesn't go for the people he already knows, but complete strangers as well. Kite is very polite, often offering help where need be, and doesn't take anything in return unless it was given to him.
His kindness extends to the most odd of players, even the system administrators who are trying to cover up what exactly happened to the different coma victims. Lios for example, one of the CC Corp. employees, accuses Kite of being a hacker and tried to delete his account on multiple attempts. However despite his hateful demeanor, it does little to effect the boy. Instead of trying to go against Lios in his attempt to restore The World, he chooses to want to work along side them even through countless protests. They have the same goal, so why can't they work together is exactly what he thought. Deciding to be the mature one and work towards something together shows not only a true desire to help his friend, but a responsible step that even the system administrators didn't want to take. Even Balmung, a player in The World and also a good friend of Orca, had accused Kite of being a hacker and swore to kill him-- yeah, he became friends with Kite, too. This just proves what a strong influence Kite had created with a strong determination and right lookout.
Speaking of determination, Kite's got a lot of that, too. While he uses his character with the illegal item to rid of The World of the different phases that seem to be corrupting it, he quoted at one point that as long as his friend is saved, he didn't care what happened to his character. It could be deleted it need be, but just as long as he was helping, he was going to use this character for good.
He is also quite reserved. While even the pressure of all of this on his shoulders, he keeps most of his worries to himself and doesn't make a huge scene with other players. Boasting about being a 'hero' or things like that. There is only a handful of people in his party roster that know of his actions, and keeping the innocent to their games is what he continued to do. Kite doesn't like to drag people into his problems, but by their own will accepted to help Kite in his quest to help the coma victims.
However, this little guy isn't serious all the time. He tends to joke around with people close to him and is known to tease on occasions. He likes a good laugh, and even seeing the result of his jokes upon others seems to be excitement for himself. His witty, or attempts to be witty, jokes help keep a lighthearted feel in a time of hardship.
Kite is also known to be a little straightforward at times. He's not afraid to speak his mind, even if he is a little soft spoken. Even something of concern draws to the surface, he will most like be the first to want to confront it. Though not as go getting and hard headed as some of his party members (aka Blackrose) he takes his straightforwardness to a whole new level when confronting either a system administrator in the infection which corrupts The World.
So while this poor little boy was kinda thrown into it all once he obtained the bracelet, he plays the hero role pretty well. He won't give up on his friends, and does all that he can to try to help those around him-- even if they don't return the gesture. He doesn't do it self satiation or to be praised by others... no. All he wants to do is help his friend. A simple minded goal with a lot of weight behind it. He has a heart of gold that outshines past the virtual in what he hopes to be a safe future for all.
[Abilities]
http://dothack.wikia.com/wiki/Twin_Blade (A list of different twin blade abilities but not including R:2!)
Kite also has a very special ability which was granted to him by one of 'The World's A.Is (Aura)-- the Twilight bracelet. With this item, he is able to rewrite the data of corrupted monsters and reduce them to a lower form. So basically, if the monster is unable to be fought by regular attacks, Data Drain- which is the power the bracelet holds- may extract that virus some said monster and make it to where it is vulnerable. But it doesn't have to be just virus-induced monsters. By attacking regular ones with the Data Drain, Kite is able to obtain virus cores (which allows him to enter gated areas which is ANOTHER ABILITY OF THE BRACELET. awyeah hackin') or certain rare items.
However, there is also a downside to the bracelet. If he uses it too much the virus will spread throughout his character usually causing status inducing effects such as poison or lowering of his defense. Or worse case scenarios-- death.
[Other important stuff] WELCOME TO... THE WORLD!!! I mean... no, not really. Only that this is a person inside a video game characters body? So... yup.
[Sample post]
[First Person]
- Would you consider yourself a power hungry individual?
Not at all. I only want to help my friend. This power... it wasn’t meant for me in the first place.
- Do you stand up against authority, go against all odds, and if you could, pierce the heavens with your fighting spirit? If not, would you if you could?
[ ... ] Hmm... if it has to do with going against authority, I don’t think I would. We can just work together, right?
- Would you consider yourself a hero or a villain? Why? Neither is an option as well, but still tell why.
I’ve never really thought about it before, but maybe I’m a little of both. I’m not saying I have done anything worth being a called a hero, and I don’t try to do things wrong. I’m just... me!
- You are a given a mission. Would you complete it effectively or would you goof off and do something else? Expand a little on the response.
Oh no, I would try to get it done right away! You never know if the mission has someone’s life on the line. I wouldn’t want to take that risk.
- Am I asking too many personal or strange questions?
Heh. Kinda. :-)
- What pleases you the most?
Soccer! Aside from playing ‘The World’, it’s something I really enjoy doing.
- Will you make a contract with me? /人 ◕ ‿‿ ◕ 人\
... Uh-- no?
[Third Person]
A deep breath. In... out.
It was a wave of relief that graciously brushed off his shoulders the moment his blades drew to his side. We really did it! Another phase down! Butterflies formed in his stomach and an unshakable amount of accomplishment took its place when he felt a hand to his shoulder. It was Balmung, and even Lios looked pleased-- a triumph to be celebrated, indeed.
Yet... would this phases, like the rest, corrupt The World even further?
The victory was soon washed over with grief. Everything he tried to do to help, all the stress and hours he's spent hacking away and trying to find something to cure Yasuhiko with only ended in a heart wrenching uncertainly that he just wasn't trying hard enough. Could this bracelet the he received really be the key to help those comatose victims. Well... there wasn't any hope of turning back now-- he had already gotten so far.
It was then his attention glanced to the invisible item attached to his wrist. "This bracelet..." His voice muttered silently to himself amongst the others' conversion with each other. With fists clenched, and eyes softened with memories, the faintest smile twitched across his lips. "Don't worry, Orca. We're so close. This time, I'll protect you." It was a solemn promise. One that even though his friend couldn't hear... he was going to keep to it.
"Just hold on a little--"
"Kite, what are you doing? Let's get going already!" The female of the group, Blackrose, had called over to the half-dazed boy. Which, in turn, snapped the boy from his obvious clueless state.
"Ah, right. I'm coming!" Just one more glance to the bracelet, a tight clench, and finally making his way back to the rest of the group.
It's our counterattack now!
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] This .Hack series is so rare and in between, I thought it would be a lovely change of pace to see some characters we don't usually see. ALSO CASTMATES and I would love to see how interaction would play out between R:1 and R:2 of The World. :-)
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] ALL OF THEM-- yeah.
[Any questions?] I'm a little curious if Kite would be able to use his bracelet here. And if so, what exactly how that entail? He only uses it on monsters, but say if it were to go out of control, could that be possible?
