Character Name: Velvet Valentine
Character Series: Odin Sphere
Character Age: Early twenties
Background:
Odin Sphere Wiki;
Velvet's pagePersonality: Though she has had a hard life, Velvet's kindness and strength has never diminished. The child of a forbidden love affair between Odin and Princess Ariel of Valentine, she has witnessed much tragedy and heartache, but her determination and spirit never falter.
Though she and her twin brother were cursed by their mother's prophecy foretelling their doom, Velvet still has hope that the curse can be overcome. Even in the face of overwhelming odds and evidence to the contrary, she refuses to give up and continues to search for a way to change her and Ingway's fate. When she learns of the prophecies foretelling the end of the world, she faces them with the same kind of determined optimism, vowing to do all she can to change what seems to be set in stone.
When she and Ingway were still very young, they witnessed their grandfather murder their mother. When he found out about her love for Odin, he flew into a rage and ended her life in front of the eyes of her children. This was the beginning of King Valentine's descent into madness, the brunt of which was often on Velvet's shoulders. Ingway would often flee from their grandfather's rage, leaving Velvet to weather the storm. Despite this and the many other faults he has, Velvet still loves her twin brother dearly, even if he frustrates her at times.
Always one to forgive and accept everyone, there is one person that Velvet feels she can never forgive - Odin, her father. She blames him for her mother's death, and even though he treats her with kindness and a kind of desperate love, she still wants nothing to do with him. Unlike Ingway, however, she doesn't seem to despise him, once again showing her caring and compassionate nature. She may sometimes seem aloof and reserved, but her capacity to care for those around her is never hidden. Velvet truly feels for those around her, be they family or merely former subjects of Valentine.
That being said, her love for the cursed people of Valentine pales in comparison to her love for the prince of Titania. What at first glance seems to be puppy love goes much, much deeper and only grows stronger the more time they spend together. While Cornelius is willing to forsake his own kingdom for her love, Velvet's feelings don't change even when her love is cursed to take the form of a Pooka like all of the former subjects of Valentine. For Velvet, the form is unimportant - it's the spirit and heart that matter, and regardless of what he may look like she remains totally devoted to Cornelius.
