Jared and Sam got it all wrong and even though he's privy to their thoughts and memories, now that it's happened to him he can maybe give a better description.
It's not like gravity moves -- nothing so dramatic as that. It's like the ocean, maybe, pounding and relentless, thoughts of her invading his mind. He can't stop thinking about her and as stupid and cliche as it sounds, he doesn't really want to. The image of her back, her shoulders, the glimpse he caught of about three-quarters of her face, it's all engraved in his mind and it won't let go.
He started out looking for Bella. He found someone he wasn't expecting -- someone he should have been looking for all along.

So he knocks, veins pulsing through the hand pressing against the door. He needs to see her again, needs to let her face fill his brain.
Her face, to crowd out the one that's already there (he wants to hope it's fading).
