Name: Colleen

LumatiContact: Mercurial Whimsy on Aim
Character Name:Serah Farron
Series: Final Fantasy XIII
Gender:Female
Age & Canon Point:18, Right after Serah enters crystal stasis so more or less while she's being a pretty decoration part of Lake Bresha.
Requested Sponsor: Amber? The page says it's full, but the taken page only shows like 2? So I'm just assuming the sponsor page hasn't been updated? Otherwise I'd say Topaz, but amber more so.
Entry position (Cadet, SeeD, Instructor, other): Cadet, much to Snow's (and Lightning's) dismay I'm sure.
History:
I like wiki links!Abilities & Physical Abnormalities: I'd say she's a good cook and has some decent house keeping skills, but that's about it really. Any issues with her bran are taken care of by time compression after all.
Any possible abilities she gained from being a l'cie are never shown in canon so I'm basically just going to figure that she has none unless word of god states otherwise.
Personality:
While playing a big part in the plot of XIII, Serah isn't actively in it for a huge amount of the game time. Still, some things are pretty easy to tell about the younger Farron.
One of the big things the game likes to point out are the parallels between Lightning and Serah, little ways in which the two sister's are clearly similar. Loosing both parents while they were still fairly young was a hard blow on both girls and it shows in how their personalities developed as they both had to grow up and mature a little faster than they would have had to do otherwise. Serah is a young woman who is rather independent and stubborn. It's not as blatantly in your face as her older sister's, but it's still something that should be made note of. Notably this can be seen in Serah's first reaction to becoming a l'cie as she doesn't tell her sister right away and in fact pushes Snow away in an attempt to keep him safe.
Despite this, she's shown as typically being someone who is clearly wise beyond her years with a good head on her shoulders. This is shown rather well when she gives advice to Vanille when the Pluse l'cie was struggling with some problems. This also serves as a great highlight of how Serah genuinely seems to want to help other people. Giving Vanille advice, dumping Snow to try and save him from herself, and how much she worries about her older sister are all great examples of how more often than not Serah is thinking about other people more than she is herself.
Serah's relationship with Lightning is a pretty important one an shows some interesting glimpses into both characters. It's likely due to the loss of their parents while they were younger, but there's a marked difference to the sister's relationship that most sister relationships don't have, namely an almost maternal edge. It's this maternal edge that frustrates Serah to a certain degree, since Lightning still sees her as that younger sister who needs to be cared for and fussed over when all she wants is to be an adult in her own right. This is a two-edged sword solely because that maternal edge is exactly why Serah worries about Lightning so much, something that just increases the more her sister starts to bury herself into her work.
One has to wonder if Lightning's increased distance as she slowly got more and more wrapped up in her work is part of what aided Serah's involvement with Snow. Whatever the cause for why she started dating Snow, it's obvious that the feelings are real and something she feels strongly about. It's obvious that she was torn up about he idea of dumping Snow, but she forced herself to do it anyway since she thought it was the right thing to do. Of course Snow being the stubborn man that he is didn't leave it at that of course, which is probably for the best. It's a great lesson for her in the fact that she can't always do things on her own and that sometimes it's okay to depend on the people closest to her for help.
What are your plans for the character in-game? Well, at first Serah's just going to be surprised to be conscious really. I think being a student and learning a little about draw magic and the like could be a great opportunity for her though. I figure since she seems to like helping people so much that she'd start learning about medicine and healing, both magical and non-magical as a sort of kick start for the hopeful day in the future when she can return to her own world and hopefully attend university there. Learning to defend herself couldn't hurt either.
Anything else?
Nope, I don't think so anyway. ^^
Complete TWO out of the FOUR options.
i) IC Questionnaire (can be found on the application page)
(As this questionnaire is entirely IC, your character is free to lie.)
What do you prefer to be known as? My name's Serah.
How old are you? I'm eighteen years old
Do you have any history in combat? I think it'd be better to leave the fighting to people who know what they're doing. Like Snow and my sister.
If so, have you ever killed? No and I don't want to! I'd rather help save lives than take them.
i) How do you feel when you get involved in some project that calls for immediate and rapid activity? I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and do hard work. Just leave it to me!
ii) Do you organize and initiate leisure activities? I've gone out with friends and that sort of thing, what girl hasn't? Most of my time's spent taking care of the house and spending time with Snow so I've been really busy lately. And then lately well... [she trails off and touches her arm where her brand should have been.] I wasn't exactly someone most people wanted to be around.
iii) What role do you take when working in a group? I don't mind giving advice when I need to and I don't mind working hard to help the group either.
iv) How talkative are you around other people? My sister's not exactly a big talker. Sometimes it feels like I have to do enough talking for the both of us! [She smiles though and her voice has fond tone to it.] I don't have to worry about that with Snow. He's really nice to talk to and it feels like he really listens to what I have to say. [Pause] Not that I think Sis doesn't!
v) What three things would you want to have with you on a desert island? State your reasoning. Snow, My sister Lightning, and the knife we got her for her birthday. It doesn't matter where I am as long as the people I care about the most are there with me. I just thought the knife would come in handy so she doesn't have to worry about her gunblade going dull.
vi) Is it important to be liked by a wide range of people? I think that people don't realize how nice it is to have others like you until something happens and you realize that when they find out no one will like you.
vii) When the odds are against you, is it worth taking a chance? I think that it's always worth the chance if it's something important, Snow taught me that.
viii) Do you consider yourself to be an impulsive person? Impulsive? I guess in some ways maybe, more than my sister that's for sure.
ix) Would you agree that planning things ahead takes the fun out of life? I think it's good to plan sometimes, but sometimes you need to just be able to let things go, don't you think?
x) Do you like surprises? I like good surprises! They can be really nice sometimes.
xi) Do you sometimes wonder if there is something wrong with you? I didn't used to, but lately it's been hard not to wonder if there's something wrong with me. [She touches the place where her brand should have been again absently.]
xii) Do you consider yourself to be smarter than your superiors, and disagree with their decisions? Well, I think it really depends on the situation and what's going on. I think superiors are generally that way fora reason, but they don't always have the answer.
xiii) Lastly, how do you feel about cabbages? They're very useful for cooking?
iii) Bracket/Commentspam RP sample (can be general or a response to the post's prompt).
[She never would have expected waking up to feel so weird. It just didn't feel natural somehow. Having trailed one hand down her arm experimentally, she gave an absent little half nod at the feeling of flesh and not crystal under her fingers. Maybe it had all been a dream? It couldn't have been though, the reassurance that was her engagement necklace stood as solid proof to that. Still she couldn't help but check her arm just to be sure, and to put any last doubts to rest. Sure enough...]
No brand? [She gasped out loud, hand flying to cover her mouth in shock.] My mark is gone, then does that mean it's over? [Looking around her at the rather unfamiliar walls and corridors she couldn't help but shake her head in dismay. If things were over wouldn't Lightning and Snow have been there waiting for her to wake up? Something must have happened!] I need to find them. Something feels wrong! [Worried about getting lost, she still left anyway. One hand trailing along the walls in an attempt to keep her bearings as she explore her new surroundings. Worried and desperate Serah stopped every so often to call out for them both voice raising in pitch and urgency with each call.] Lightning? Snow! Can you hear me? Anyone? [If something had happened to them, she'd never be able to forgive herself not as long as she lived!]
Ah, I know I don't need a third sample but... for more samples there's always:
