I do not recommend Elemental. I enjoy playing it a great deal, but it's unfinished and unpolished. Stardock fans are vociferous defenders of the company, due to its open communication policy (the CEO is a regular on the message boards) and history of strong support for its games. At least in the UK, games are no longer a political soft-target. This is only going to grow.

Kamui is a the story of a young "nukenin" (runaway ninja) starting a life in a fishing town. It's a historical action movie, with over-the-top acrobatics, supernatural ninja feats (including bunshin), and heavy-handed narration. So I watched the first two Resident Evil movies, and they were enjoyable enough. I have a theory in which if the tone of a movie series changes dramatically between installments, it's likely not a good series. With "time-pressured" journalists unsatisfied with just reproducing PR-department-written press kits, now journalists are cribbing from Twitter, Flickr, and internet wtf sites for "stories" and throwing together top 10 lists.

We end up with an ephemeral froth of no substance, plagarised from people who actually did some legwork. It's appalling.

I was sorely disappointed by The Expendables. It was a reunion of 80s action heroes (who is this Jason Statham dude anyway?) without any real point. Arnie and Willis were thoroughly wasted, and whatever humour was horribly awkward and badly written. This film was nothing like I expected - it was in Spanish, set decades ago in Spain during Franco's rule, and is full of gore and physical and psychological violence. More significantly, the fantasy elements were secondary to the tale of a girl growing up in a brutal environment, and a resistance movement against the fascists. To go into spoiler ( Read more... )
