Broke

I talk to a lot of people who never seem to have enough money. And it got me thinking. What is the thing that's holding you back? Don't say you don't get paid enough. Was there an accident? What's the thing you spend too much money on?

Generally, I just end up pissing it away on little shit. Eat out, buy small things I don't need, that kind of thing. I actually very rarely make large, ill-advised purchases. I just suck at managing and keeping track of my money.

I agree with that completely, but I am getting better and better at only buying things when I actually need them. Hopefully we won't be so broke soon!

It's usually something large, like tuition, car payments, car insurance, or a sudden expense that comes up (car repairs, another textbook, something that wasn't supposed to, broke).

Student loans.

And putting money into savings for emergencies, because I know as soon as we get ahead, something big will happen, like a car explosion.

Oh, and using "I can't afford that" to mean "I don't want that enough to budget for it."

I have the money to afford most purchases I want to make, but it's always I trade. If I do this thing, I won't get to do that thing. If I buy a new dress, I won't get new shoes later.

I'd rather say "I can't afford that" than explain "sure, I can get that totally awesome RPG sourcebook, but if I do, I don't get craft supplies for a month."
