I have watched the anime a long time ago and it was entertaining from what I remember. It wasn't a great show that would make you want to marathon it or something but it wasn't a boring one either that you would think was a waste of your time. I would probably give it a 6 rating. Haven't read the manga though and I don't remember much of the story either now, just some bits and pieces.

Spoilers Below
As I was reading your review (2 brothers part) I remembered some more of the story which I'm still not sure is from this anime. It's the same one where they were in a space ship or something and he liked the older woman who was raising them or something like that, if I remember correctly. I didn't like this part of the story. and I was sad when the other guy with the big cross died :( I had a feeling when I was watching it that that would happen.

Yup, Vash was taken care of by a woman that gave him slightly more attention than this brother. They were originally on a space ship, and his brother crashed all the ships and killed all his crewmates and a majority of the settlers. The humans on the planet are the survivors from the crash.

I got a bit teary eyed too when the guy w/ the big cross died as well. Just when he fell in love w/ that insurance agent girl he went and died kind of in a stupid way. He didn't pull the trigger on his enemy and he got killed as a result. The whole passive "no kill" theology of Vash's was a bit too extreme, but the series was interesting enough to finish. Not enough to rewatch though.

Yeah, I really don't like the whole 'no killing' thing of good guys in anime. It's always, "I'm strong but I won't kill, don't like to kill etc". Makes me want to kill them. You know when they big cross guy died, I thought it's a pity but atleast they did it once before he died (I know pretty pervy thought) but I thought atleast he did something good before dying.
