STILL doing the 5-8-5 run, when I should be doing a solid 20 minutes. I think it;s the jump from 8 minutes to TWENTY, over twice as much in a single step, that is bothering me. It seems weird to have it there ( Read more... )

Are you stretching properly beforehand? It should be, er, what's the word... I'm sleepy, can't think. But basically not static stretches, they're for cooling down. You should be doing stretches that move your muscles, star jumps and windmills and knee circles and stuff like that. I do find my calves stiffen up a little bit sometimes, but it just tends to work itself out, or I slow down until it's gone.

Muscular arms ftw! That'll be all that pumping you do :D Keep at it, you're doing so good! I still can't run for 20 minutes solid, but I'm getting close.

I agree - I do the same stretches before and after every run.

is it possible you have flat feet? they tend to lead to shin splints. If that is the case for you, maybe try an orthadic gel insert? I wish I knew how to improve my breathing. I have no long term endurance and not being able to breathe feels terrible. I don't think I have asthma. Just zero endurance.

I can't get any inserts, I run barefoot.

As for breathing, I get a little wheezy after a longer period of exercise, the trick is to build up gradually. The couch to 5k program I'm on seems to work well.
