Audition is one of my faves. I love horror and admire how unconventionally it toys with the genre in the first half. Miike is great. Have you heard of the Irish independent film My Name Is Emily? It came out in Ireland in 2016 and had a small, late release elsewhere in 2017. It's far from a perfect film with plenty of indie cliches with an unconvincing teen romance thrown in (Emily and Arden really could have just been friends and I would have absolutely been behind it because they did have a lot of chemistry, but the romance just wasn't there realistically; the writing reminded me a lot of the romance subplots in, and I say this as a fan, Harry Potter, i.e. very forced and manipulative), though beneath all that, it bursts with a lot of heart. I honestly related to the protagonist Emily on a lot of levels. She's not terribly likable and can be arrogant, though she clearly suffers from clinical depression (and possibly among other things), which contributes to her social isolation, therefore she comes off cold sometimes.
