Heya, all you fabulous fats! I've been driving Honda Odysseys for the last ten years... not surprising, as we homeschooled four kids. But the three oldest are on their own now, and I'm down to one. We do several cross-country road trips a year, and while the Odyssey was great when it was all of us hitting the road, now it's gonna be me and a 6-year-old sidekick... we don't need all that room.
I'm thinking of downsizing my van, and trading it in for something with much better fuel efficiency. I can do all the Kelly Blue Book and Car Talk Survey research, but there doesn't seem to be a way to rate cars for being able to comfortably accommodate my considerable butt.
I'm a 300-lb. pear, with 60" hips. The Odyssey's seats are snug but comfy, and have worked for years. The only problem I have is that it always feels like I can't get the seatback to tip forward as far as I'd like... I guess my rear pushes me forward a bit, and I don't feel like I'm getting the back support I'd like. I had a lumbar pillow for a while, which helped for my lower back, but didn't do anything for my shoulder blades.
I just thought I'd check with you folks first before I go falling in love with a car and finding out there's no freakin' way I'll ever feel like I fit into it.
What do you drive? Tell me about the most comfortable cars you've ever driven! If you have comments about the maintenance and MPG and safety info, bring it on, but I can look all that stuff up... what I REALLY need is the intangible data that only you, my fat community, can give me!
Many many thanks in advance!
ETA: Hey gang! I got all the papers signed yesterday... I'm now the owner of a 2011 Honda Fit. It really does have a TON of room inside. I just thought I'd update, in case anyone was curious (or for future folks researching). THANK YOU all for your wisdom, insight and willingness to share your experiences!
