Pickle report, February edition
We finally had our first real unresolved pickle conundrum. I attempted some pickled beets in our new japanese pickle press. I roasted them first, a technique I'd read about in Nourishing Traditions, which has many pickle recipes. After 3 days I ended up with a viscous mess. The whole inauguration day moved me so much, really. And then, to top it off, my friend pointed out to me that the Stonewall riots are mentioned in a favorable light on the White House web site. I feel kind of in shock at the possibility of not being marginalized by society and the government for my queerness. This is gonna take some getting used -
Pickle report, holiday edition
The holidays have been un-surprisingly themed with pickles. Many pickles were eaten, many pickle recipes were pondered, pickle-loving friends were made, and many pickle-related gifts were given.

What do folks think about this article in the Huffington Post by Bob Osterberg: "Why Gay Marriage is the Wrong Issue?"
I think in many respects he's right, but his pompous and condescending tone really bugs me.
