question: Truth be told, I completely hate Firefly - i think it was the most overrated show on tv and i wasn't sad to see it go (flame away - i'm the only person i know who feels this way). Could I enjoy the movie if I didn't enjoy the tv show? I like the sounds of this whole comparison to Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine, as i thoroughly enjoyed both of those movies.

Hhhmm, that's tough to say. The reference to BJM and ESotSM aren't really in relation to filming or directorial style, or even the type of story told (although Card does consider all three of the movies to be sci-fi). But more towards the story-telling style of the author, and the emotional attachment you are able to develop with Whedon's characters.

I think if you go in with an open mind you will, at the very least, be delightfully surprised. (or completely disgusted)

Note: I wasn't a fan of the show when it was on tv, I only watched the first season about 3 months ago.

I hated BJM and haven't seen ES yet. I'm glad there's only one season of Firefly because it's going to save me money. I bought all of Buffy and Angel this summer. My bank account can really use a break.
