I read an interview with the guy that Nick Nolte portrayed, and he was absolutely outraged at how Nick decided to play him. He said that not only was nick nowhere near an accurate mark in his portrayal, but that Nick didn't even bother calling him or interviewing him or anything.
Nolte's portrayla is suposedly waaaaaaaaay off base.
Romeo Dallaire was here a few months ago to talk at the University, unfortunately I wasn't able to attend because of classes. From what others told me he was very calm and composed and professional, the exact opposite of how Nick Nolte portrayed him. But then again it is an American portraying a Canadian, I'm surprised Nick didn't insist on wearing a parka and snow shoes in every scene.
On a side note while he was here one of my Professors asked Romeo what he though of the Missile Defense Shield, and whether or not Canada should participate. He answered "it's a bad idea, but if the Americans are going to do it anyways we might as well get on board with them" not really the attitude I would expect from a man who defied direct orders to protect the lives of a few thousand people.
